Hi Everyone,
Welcome to another edition of the My Buddy Butch Chronicle! Buried under the snow and bracing for another storm, Butch saw his shadow (I don't know how) and predicts winter will end in March, around the 20th. I think he saw the news reports on Groundhog Day and wants to try his luck. I think he wants a new holiday "Boston Terrier Day" where he predicts how many giant balls he will pop this summer! We'll see... As always, we do not wish to send unwanted email to anyone, and your email address was in our mail box or someone here received a business card or communication from you at one time. In addition to the email addresses we already have, in the future we will only be adding people who sign up for the "Chronicle." Please feel free to forward this email using the forward email button at the bottom of this page!
Butch and I hope you enjoy the MBB Chronicle and we hope we can help you love your pet a little bit more!
Sincerely,
Jeff and Butch

MBB Radio NetworkLatest Show
Check out the MBB radio show this week for the interview with our friend TV Host David Frei which begins our coverage of the WESTMINSTER Dog Show in New York City which will air Feb 15th and 16th on USA Network. David has been hosting this show for the last 21 years and no one is more knowledgable about the 173 breeds that will be represented there. Sam Martin of PRESTONE joins us to talk about the difference between regular and "Low Tox" antifreeze which has been around since 1994. They are BOTH toxic to your pet but listen in to the difference and how Prestone has teamed up with the ASPCA. Donna Paige of the ANIMAL CONNECTION SHOW stopped in to talk about the film work she is doing to raise awareness around the world for animals that need our help Check out "Pay-it Forward-Fridays" on her sight. Dr. Patrick Mahaney "Vet to The Stars" discusses the strange bacterial infection that "Stump" the 2009 Westminster winner came down with that almost killed him! Dr. Patrick was correct, Stump was 10 when he won, I think I incorrectly said he was 12 but still the oldest dog ever to win Westminster! We also talk about my comment in last week's CHRONICLE about Vaccines that set everyone off! You need to know this information about the Vaccines your pet is getting! Check out the AFTER SHOW BLOG for specific information and links. Join us on Twitter ! And don't forget to check out our Facebook page also! Join us again next week! Don't miss it!
New Show every Thursday night streams 24/7 from our site click the MBB Radio picture above. The show is also available for download at Apple iTunes, Zune, and at our web portal on BTR. Check the schedule and listen to the show LIVE at BTR Thursday's at 7pmET.

Article Feature - A toddler for life..not me, Butch!
ButchAuthor: Jeff Marginean and Butch
OK, I admit it, I'm still a kid at heart and Butch helps me revisit that on a regular basis. After our 15 or so inches of snow that fell over the weekend and being sick of staying in the house day after day, I decided to have a little fun with Butch outside.  I went overboard a bit and cut a maze in the snow for Butch to run around and find a few treats. Naturally, he needs a place to "Go" so while clearing his area on the grass I just kept on going. One thing I've realized about situations like this, that many parents of children and pets alike already know, is that despite the fun that Butch and I are having, there is a limit to what he can endure, not being an "outside" dog. His little flat face and short snout make it hard for him to tolerate extreme weather for very long. Dogs with longer noses and coats can naturally keep warmer. Their long snout can heat up the air before reaching its lungs. Breathing heavy in cold weather will constrict the blood vessels in ALL animals and as Dr. Patrick said a couple weeks ago hypothermia is no joke. Even though we were having fun, I have to remind myself that Butch will stay outside as long as I want to, even if he drops. Ultimately, he wants to please me and so if I want to stay outside, he wants to have fun out there with me making it MY RESPONSIBILITY to know when it's time to quit. Spending a quick 5 or 10 minutes outside running through the snow maze and then back into the house to warm up again was the order of the day to make sure Butch had some fun, got some fresh COLD air, and got me off my behind every 30 minutes or so! Since my neighbors are already used to my wild running around the yard being chased by Butch, the flying snow, and yelling don't surprise them anymore! So please don't forget to take care of your buddy in the snow and don't keep them outside too long in this cold snowy weather here in the north! Remember, even though they are having fun with you, it's up to you to be responsible...as my friend Denise Fleck of Sunnydogink.com says, "They are toddlers for life!"
Did You Know...
Distemper
A virus disease of canines and especially of dogs that is caused by a morbillivirus (species Canine distemper virus) and is marked by fever, leukopenia, and respiratory, gastrointestinal, and neurological symptoms called also canine distemper!
Based on the response from last week, I'm not going to say "Check on your Vaccines." As this is a VERY charged subject, I am going to be doing a series of segments on the show that investigates the pros and cons from both angles of the issue. As Butch's annual vaccination date approaches in August, I am going to investigate the need for his "Shots" and whether or not to continue them. Butch has had a reaction from his Parvo/Distemper shots the past couple of years, so I want to know why because I don't want to put him through it again. Butch's vet is very cautious when giving any type of shots and prefers as few as absolutely possible. We'll see how this goes so stay tuned...
