wreathPresident's Letter
Dear PCFR Members and Friends:
As we near the end of 2010 let's take the opportunity to validate what's good about our organization. By joining the group, we've indicated that our antennae are sensitive to the buzz of public affairs. That's a good thing. We like-no we NEED to know what's going on and that's why we attend meetings.
By attending the meetings, we've also demonstrated our choice not to be rubber stamps. Each of us brings something unique to the table, and we know we're allowed to express ourselves in conversation before the event or during the Q & A. Personal individuality makes the Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations so special. The glue of our bond is that we're hooked on lifelong learning. We grow from our interaction with each other just as we learn from our guest speakers.
Let me once again recommend that when time permits, you look into serving on one of the committees responsible for producing a successful season of a non-profit organization. It takes a Program Committee to identify topics and speakers from the available options. It takes a Membership Committee to manage the flow of applications with which to sustain the organization's optimum numbers. (But of course, we rely on our members to recommend qualified new members. Please think who you can invite to a meeting in the new year.)The Membership Committee also identifies our full scholarship recipients in the honorary student member category.

PCFR is a non profit so it takes a Development Committee to establish relationships with very necessary financial supporters of our Scholarship program. The Development Committee also insures sponsorships for students from local graduate schools to atend events, which of course brings us potential future members, once those students graduate.

It takes a Communications Committee to keep up with technological developments linking PCFR to the membership and the media.

It takes a Board of Directors to maintain the high standards for which PCFR has always been recognized.

And most of all, it takes a dedicated team in the office of the Executive Director to process operations. What arrives in chaos, exits in harmony. That's a real coup.
As we look towards 2011, let us give thanks that we have each other in this most difficult world.

With gratitude to PCFR and you all,

Optimistically,

Susie B. Lavenson,
President
