President's Letter
Welcome PCFR members and prospective members to our 2010-2011 season. There is so much to talk about, so many ideas to exchange. This group has become the epicenter for some of the most fascinating conversations in the Metro Phoenix area.
Why is that? The answer is simple...it's because that's who we are. The Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations is the quintessential forum for open dialogue. That happens to be one of the benefits of membership. We want to hear from new and creative thinkers, newsmakers, authors, experts, government officials, diplomats, business people; and we value equally our members' spirited discussions for or against whatever our presenters have to say. We like our members to speak up, and we encourage them to attend meetings particularly if they don't agree (in advance) with the speaker...civilized discussion builds a more resilient society. So we come together for another season of discourse and education...and as believers in the more the merrier, we invite all our members to share the opportunity for membership with friends and colleagues who would enjoy the privileges of being part of PCFR. The newly simplified membership application and our revised, updated Website should assist in the recruitment process. I've missed you all this summer, and look forward to seeing you, and the new members you're going to bring with you. Don't disappoint me.
Optimistically, Susie B. Lavenson,
President |
New Website Unveiled By now, most of you will have accessed the new website and found it easier to renew membership and register for meetings. In addition, the new website assists us in our principal goal...to position PCFR as the Phoenix source for international information. If you would like to share an international article or perhaps a great website, or a particular resource, please send it to Conni and we'll post it on the website under the new BULLETIN BOARD on the home page. You can also view a calendar of upcoming international events in Phoenix by clicking on our Partner Events tab, located under the Partners tab on the home page. Comments? Suggestions? Information? We are interested in your feedback - let us know your thoughts at info@pcfraz.org. And, of course, if you have any suggestions (with contacts, of course) for a speaker or a program, please let us know. |
Renew Your Membership Online
For those of you who have not yet renewed your membership online - it's quick AND easy! And you don't even have to remember your username and password from last year! Just go to the Membership Info navigation button and choose Renew Membership from the drop down menu, then start filling it out! It's that simple. Deadline for directory inclusion is November 1st, but you will want to renew WAY before that to take advantage of our great programs this year. And, as always, if you have any questions, just call us at the office at 602-441-4967. |

Honorary Student Members
At the September 16th dinner event, you will have the opportunity to meet and greet our nine new Honorary Student Members. This year's group already has business experience, a worldview, and an international presence and we encourage you to make a special effort to meet them. Please introduce yourselves and consider becoming a mentor. These personal connections lead to meaningful lifelong friendships with young, dynamic members of the community. We will be showcasing our Honorary Student members individually in future newsletters, but for now we say WELCOME to the Class of 2010-2011 Honorary Student Members! |

Contest Winner! The deadline to return your completed Membership Participation Survey was SEPTEMBER 1. On that date, we drew from those that we received and CHERYL CRAME, Executive Analyst/International Relations Coordinator at Salt River Project was the lucky winner! Cheryl wins a free registration to a meeting of her choice and seating at the head table. Congratulations, Cheryl!
Thank you to everyone who submitted their surveys. As a volunteer-led non-profit, your comments and participation is very important to the PCFR. |
