Kevin Thorson, pictured third from the right, poses with his fellow classmates as they proudly display the Machine Tooling Certificates they received during a recent graduation celebration held at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau. In May of 2010, the company Kevin worked for announced they would be closing. His very first thought was, "What am I going to do now?" He was 50 years old and had spent his entire career working for the same employer. Kevin made the decision to go back to school, but before he even graduated, something quite remarkable happened. Read Kevin's story HERE.

NCWWDB Hosts Second Networking for Talent Event - North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board (NCWWDB) recently hosted an Employer Roundtable "Networking for Talent" event for employers from the manufacturing sector to meet and talk with our "trained and ready to hire" Machine Tool/CNC graduates and soon to graduate Production Welding students. Need a Workforce or Economic Snapshot by County Report? NCWWDB Can Help!
By: Bruce Trimble, NCWWDB Employer Services Director
When the NCWWDB submitted its 2012 - 2013 Workforce Investment Act plan, one of the key components for the Business Services Team was to become the preeminent source for workforce data.
We are one of the few entities in the state that can provide economic projections for industries and occupations. Need to know what the outlook is for hiring in a specific field? We can provide a historical look at that as well as a look into a variety of scenarios. We can also provide the same level of forecasting for an industry in general. We utilize software from Economic Modeling Software Incorporated (EMSI), a comprehensive tool that not only provides the forecasting already mentioned but also includes demographic and educational scenarios and data in the package as well. This is a robust economic tool that we make available at no charge. Click HERE to read more.

Did You Know - You can Increase Workforce Inclusion in Four Simple Steps? While research shows that people with disabilities make excellent employees, not all employers know how to effectively recruit, retain and advance such individuals.
Competence and Flexibility...they are vital skills that employers seek. Today more than ever, businesses need people with the ability to adapt to different situations and circumstances. And perhaps more than any other group, individuals with disabilities possess precisely these attributes. On a daily basis, people with disabilities must think creatively about how to solve problems and accomplish tasks. In the workplace, this translates into innovative thinking, fresh ideas and a variety of approaches to confronting challenges and achieving success.
Building an Inclusive Workforce a Four-Step Reference Guide to Recruiting, Hiring, and Retaining Employees with Disabilities is a quick outline of four simple steps to increasing workforce inclusion, complete with Web links to resources available to help businesses benefit from the talents of qualified individuals with disabilities. Get a copy of the guide HERE.

WIA Program Year 2011 AccomplishmentsBy Jane Spencer, NCWWDB Workforce Services Director
It's time to wrap up and close the books on Program Year 2011, but before doing so I wanted to highlight some of our accomplishments in the last 12 months. Program Year 2011 was definitely a busy year, not only with first-time projects, but also with the amount of people served with WIA programs. Program Year 2011 also brought changes in the way we delivered short term training options to our participants. With the help of our staff and contracted-providers, we launched a new service delivery model. Machine tool and welding employers were brought into the project at the forefront to voice their workforce needs and to help develop meaningful curriculum. Read entire article HERE. |
CESA 5 Youth Enrichment Camp 2012
Submitted by: Jodi Pankow, WIA Youth Case Manger for CESA 5 In our work with youth, one of the biggest barriers standing in the way of their success is often their own limiting belief system. They are often told they are not smart enough, not capable enough, not worthy enough, etc. Over time, they have incorporated these beliefs into their ways of being, either consciously, or unconsciously. The goal of Enrichment Camp is to engage youth in identifying these beliefs, stretching beyond them and accessing their potential for leadership and success.
This year's camp was held at Camp Helen Bachman in Almond, WI. WIA Youth participants from Bancroft, Stevens Point, Plover
and Adams attended. CESA 5 staff developed and personalized the curriculum to meet each camp participant's unique needs. Read the
CESA 5's Youth Enrichment Camp 2012 was made possible through Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds administered by the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board (NCWWDB). Back to top
