Mary Eiden was dislocated from her utility clerk position at New Page in August of 2008.  Despite her physical challenges, Mary not only managed to complete half of her required IT Network Specialist credits while she worked full-time, but also graduated from MSTC with highest honors.  Read Mary's story HERE.

Tina Diel
TinaMeet NCWWDB's New Intern, Tina Diel - Tina is a dislocated worker from Ram Rod Industries, a former manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders that was located in Prentice, WI.  Tina worked at Ram Rod Industries as a Quality Technician and was responsible for all aspects of quality control for the Prentice facility. When Tina received notice that the plant would be closing, like many others in this situation, Tina wondered, "what am I going to do now?"  Go HERE to find out what Tina decided to do next.
 
During her internship with NCWWDB, Tina will be working with jobseekers in the resource room at the Wausau Job Center.

WWDAWisconsin Workforce Development Association's 2012 Day at the Capitol - Members of the Wisconsin Workforce Development Association (WWDA) and business owners and stakeholders from across the state will be heading to Madison on February 23rd to meet with state legislators about workforce and employment issues.  This is WWDA's 5th annual "Day at the Capitol". Transportation Career WorkshopFairCareer Fair Held for Wausau Papers & SNE Dislocated Workers - A Career Fair was held on January 25, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Rothschild Pavilion.  The fair was hosted by LETC, NCWWDB, & the Job Center.  Close to 80 dislocated workers attended from Wausau Paper's Brokaw plant and SNE  in Mosinee. Businesses, including Roehl Transport; Midwest Truck Driving School; North Country Heavy Equipment; & Sabertooth Commercial Driver Training Institute; & four colleges participated.  Colleges represented were UW Marathon; Rasmussen College; Lakeland College; & Northcentral Technical College. WWDA Anytime LogovideoWisconsin Workforce Development Association (WWDA) uses Video Conferencing to Reach Job Centers Statewide - WWDA launched its new statewide video conference workshop initiative in the fall of 2011. WWDA now broadcasts numerous workshops each week across the state to job seekers and employers. Individuals have access to 25 different video sites at local Job Centers and other community outreach offices around the state.

     Workshops developed by WWDA, focus on gaining employment for job seekers by providing the tools, information and techniques to assist them in finding jobs. Typical workshop topics include: interviewing tips, resume advice, job search strategies, time management skills, and guidance on creating professional social media profiles. December 2011 unemployment rate for our nine-county  NCWWDB area:  7.2% (unadjusted); the highest being Vilas with 10.6% unemployment
 (4th highest in the state)
 and the lowest being
Portage with 5.7%
(57th highest in the state) 
 
 
There was 1 *WARN notice given in WDA 6 during the period of  
January 1, 2012 thru
January 27, 2012. 

*WARN is a required communication for those employers with 50 or more employees.  Employers with fewer than 50 employees
may have laid people off

Program Year 2011
From July 1, 2010 to January 27, 2011, NCWWDB served 237 Youth, 279 Adults, and 900 Dislocated Workers in WIA 
Title 1- funded programs. 

 

Special Training Projects
  • 12 - WIA participants are preparing to start on Feb. 6, their 2nd round of Machine Tool / CNC training at Northcentral Technical College's Wausau campus.  
  • 12 - WIA participants are currently attending the second round of the Food Manufacturing Science Certificate (FMSC) course at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids.
