NCWWDB's Windows to Work Pilot Program Guides Inmates - A pilot program at the Wood County Jail that's designed to help inmates successfully adjust to life outside of incarceration is receiving positive comments from participants.
Windows to Work (W2W) provides training and information to inmates to help them find employment and gain skills they need to function in the community.
Angela Okon, NCWWDB's W2W Re-entry Coach, currently has
16 people in the program, ten of whom are now released from jail. Once they're in the community, Okon continues to have regular contact with participants, giving them guidance in finding and keeping jobs, locating places to live and connecting them with resources.
The program is one of the best things that ever happened to the inmates in the jail, Wood County Jail Lt. Andrew Netz said. "I walk by (the classroom) and see the room full here," Netz said. "All the inmates are paying attention. It gives them hope and someone who actually cares." Read entire article HERE. Back to top |

Lassa Introduces Kind to Central Wisconsin - Senator Julie Lassa introduced Congressman Ron Kind to community leaders in Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point in a series of meetings held recently. The communities are slated to become part of the 3rd WI Congressional District under redistricting plans approved by the State Legislature earlier this year. Kind currently represents the 3rd District, which will include Portage, Adams and south Wood county along with 13 counties in Southwest Wisconsin under the new plan.
Lassa and Kind met with NCWWDB Executive Director, Rene Daniels, members of the Community Foundation of Greater South Wood County, the Portage County Business Council and other Portage and south Wood county community leaders. Read more HERE. Back to top |

Special NCWWDB Workforce Retraining Programs Graduate First Classes from Healthcare Training, Machine Tool/CNC and Production Welding - After analyzing hundreds of survey results from north central Wisconsin employers, NCWWDB quickly realized that workforce development efforts need to focus on the development and funding of training projects customized to meet the specific needs of area employers. And, that workers needs to be trained, or retrained for positions that actually exist in our communities and be taught the skills that employers claim today's workforce is lacking. NCWWDB began working collaboratively with the input from area employers, technical colleges and other stakeholders. Through this work, the three "pilot" training programs (listed below) were developed and implemented. Now, many months later, NCWWDB is excited to announce the first classes to graduate from these "specialized training" programs.

Langlade County Residents Receive National Career Readiness Certificate -Ten adults in Langlade County recently received the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The NCRC is a transferable credential that proves an individual is work-ready. In order to earn the NCRC, participants must pass tests from the WorkKeys job skill assessment system, created by ACT. These skills are critical in the majority of jobs throughout the country. Forward Service Corporation (FSC), in conjunction with the Marathon County Job Center provided the opportunity for the assessments to be taken in Langlade County. FSC offers a variety of employment and training programs at their NTC location in Antigo, including job search and resume assistance. Learn more about the NCRC online at www.wisconsinjobcenter.org or call Forward Service Corporation at 715-623-4062. Click HERE for entire article. Back to top
