WDA 6 - Monthly Workforce News Bulletin

Welcome to the North Central WI Workforce Development Board's February - 2011 issue of Workforce News Bulletin.

Inside Issue:

Kent OlsonSurveyGet the Workforce You Need! - With renewed effort, NCWWDB is expanding its network of support for the workforce demands of local businesses. We are kicking off this endeavor by reaching out to employers and asking them to complete a short survey gauging their future hiring needs.  At the same time, we are expanding our network of support for the large pool of job seekers that want to obtain the new skills and work experience they need to compete in the labor market. To ensure maximum impact, the Workforce Board needs to "match" the skill set needs of employers with the available labor pool.

To do that, we are requesting assistance from the business community of central and northern Wisconsin. Your participation in this short confidential survey is critical. We will use the collective results of the survey to secure the necessary financial resources to deliver the workforce training your company needs.

Please complete the survey by March 25.  If you have any questions, call the NCWWDB at (715)422-4700.  Thank you for your assistance and support! ~

SAGE GrantsageSpotlight on SAGE - NCWWDB has been awarded a training grant to establish a Green Industry Partnership, known as SAGE.  SAGE is Wisconsin's Sector Alliance for the Green Economy grant, a project funded by the US Dept. of Labor to build strong energy sector workforce training partnerships and implement new green curriculum for many of Wisconsin's apprenticeship trade occupations in construction and manufacturing. NCWWDB will coordinate the project by using the funding to increase skills of apprenticeship/journey workers with updated green training. WDA 6emsiWDA 6's Highest Ranked Occupations - By Your EMSI "Desktop Economist", John Cokl

Have you ever wondered what the highest paying occupations in our Workforce Development Area are?  You'd probably guess doctors and lawyers right?  Well, you would only be half right!  Sure, lawyers made the list of the 50 highest paying occupations in our WDA but their rank will probably surprise you.  Also included in the list is the expected change in jobs for these occupations over the next five years. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons were the second highest paid occupation, but don't postmark your ABOMS exam request just yet. While the pay is good, the job market for oral and maxillofacial surgeons is expected to increase by only "one" job.  Click here to see the entire list.  Back to top

congress votinghr1Congress Votes on Three-Week CR - Congress voted this week on a new stopgap continuing resolution(CR) to fund federal government operations through April 8, replacing the current CR that was set to expire on March 18th. While the new CR does not include many of the more drastic cuts to job training programs proposed under H.R. 1, there is still a danger that these programs will be targeted in future funding bills, especially as Congressional appropriators are left with fewer non-controversial options to reduce spendingThe bill passed the House with a 271-158 vote.  Read entire article here.  Back to top

National Skills Coalition logonscNational Skills Coalition & Other National Organizations to Unite in a Workforce Day of Action - Workforce development programs are an important part of the nation's economic recovery and job creation effort, yet the House Fiscal Year 2011 Continuing Appropriations bill (HR 1) would zero out all funding for Workforce Investment Act state and local employment and training programs beginning this July. National Skills Coalition and thirteen other national workforce organizations will unite on Thursday, March 24, 2011 in support of adequate funding for workforce education and training programs. Members of Congress will be in their home districts that week. To participate sign up HEREBack to top
