Pictured are NTC Welding/Metallurgy Instructor Darren Wild (left) and WIA Dislocated Worker Program participant Brenda Cichon (right). Brenda enrolled in the non-traditional occupational program of welding after losing her job of 13 years at a central Wisconsin window company.  Her husband, John, also lost his job at the same time.  In her program at NTC, she learned all different kinds of welding, blueprint reading, metallurgy, and automated classes.  Brenda says she really hopes more women enter the welding profession in the future.  Brenda claims, "There is no such thing as a 'man's world' anymore; it is a woman's/man's world, and I love it."  Read more about Brenda and what she's doing now.

WDA 6emsiNCWWDB's Area Aging Quicker than State -

By Your EMSI "Desktop Economist", John Cokl

In projected demographics through the year 2015 residents in our area will have aged quicker than the state of Wisconsin as a whole. This will most likely have been a result of factors such as, emigration, but it is unlikely to include factors such as, time manipulations via wormholes. Using EMSI "your desktop economist" software, I was able to view demographic projections for our WDA and the state as a whole and compare that raw data.  If you don't like scouring raw data and would much rather look at the information in chart form, we have that for you too. According to this data, in 2015, 35% of residents living in NCWWDB will be 55 years old or older, while only 29% of the residents living in the state of Wisconsin will be in that age range in 2015. (see the pie charts)  If pie charts aren't your thing, you're in luck!  I also made a line graph to show the disparity between our north central area and Wisconsin (aggregate) in regards to gains and losses of age groups during the 2010-2015 time frame. (see the line graph)

NCWWDB along with LETC are currently establishing a 'transition center' located in Stevens Point for the affected workforce residing there. A location for the transition center has just been secured and plans are to open the center by the end of February. Read entire article here.  Back to top
