 Govenor Walker Selects Manuel Perez, to Lead Wisconsin's DWD - Scott Walker has named Manuel Perez, former President and Co-owner of JNA Staffing as Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) replacing DWD Secretary Roberta Gassman. In Walker's Cabinet position, Perez will be in charge of seven DWD divisions. Read news article here. Back to top

 Windows to Work (W2W) Program to Help Offenders Successfully Transition from Incarceration Back into Wood County - Department of Corrections (DOC) and NCWWDB have entered into an agreement financed through DOC's Becky Young Recidivism Reduction Appropriation funding. This funding will provide the services of a soon to be announced, Re-Entry Coach to create a network of employers and landlords that support reentry, as well as create employment opportunities and employment readiness supports for offenders reentering from corrections into Wood County.  DWD Secretary Announces Additional Assistance for Workers at Federal Mogul in Schofield - Former DWD Secretary Roberta Gassman announced workers displaced at Federal Mogul Corporation in Schofield, and leased workers of AEROTEC, are eligible for additional re-employment and training services under the federal TAA program. This additional assistance will help workers increase their job skills, re-enter the workforce and support themselves and their families. Read media release here. Back to top

 New MSTC President Eager to Continue Learning -
Full of hope and excitement, Sue Budjac took over as president of Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids, succeeding John Clark, who retired at the end of December. - Must be at least 18 years old
- Be employed or in temporary layoff status
- Earn an income at or below $10,830 in the past 6 months
- Possess a High School diploma or equivalent
- Be enrolled at a Wisconsin Technical College

 The Community Rebuilders: Kelly Lucas and Linetta Gilbert Nominated for 2010 Leaders of the Year - Kelly Lucas, is the president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater South Wood County in Central Wisconsin. Linetta Gilbert is a recently retired senior program officer at the Ford Foundation, and founder of a new philanthropic initiative.  New Website: Wisconsin Bioenergy Information and Outreach Network - The site provides a comprehensive source of information for entrepreneurs, businesses, researchers and policymakers to find resources and technologies to develop and grow the bioenergy sector in Wisconsin. This new tool is a collaborative knowledge project developed by UW-Madison Land Information and Computer Graphics Facility, UW-Extension, and the Wisconsin Bioenergy Initiative and the Energy Center of Wisconsin. November 2010, Wisconsin unemployment rate - 7.1% (unadjusted); 7.6% (seasonally adjusted)
November 2010 unemployment rate for our nine-county NCWWDB area: 7.5% (unadjusted); the highest being Adamswith 10.1% unemployment
(5th highest in the state)
and the lowest being Portage with 5.5% (65th highest in the state)
There were 7 *WARN notices given in WDA 6 during the period of
January 1, 2010 thru December 23, 2010.
*WARN is a required communication for those employers with 50 or more employees. Employers with fewer than 50 employees may have laid people off during this time. |
WIA Training Report For the Program Year 2010 that started July 1, 2010 NCWWDB has 248 Youth, 353 Adults, and 960 Dislocated Workers enrolled in WIA Title 1 funded programs.
To date, 79 Opportunity Grants have been awarded to 59 Adults. The Opportunity Grant Program has been extended into 201l. Contact Jane Spencer at
