WHD CalendarwagehourWage & Hour Releases New Work Hours Calendar - A new "Work Hours Calendar" in English and Spanish has been developed to help workers make sure they are properly paid at the end of the work week. The calendar helps workers track their rate of pay, when they start and stop working, and arrival and departure times.  The calendar includes information on worker rights and filing wage violation complaints.  Download the Calendar (English) / (Spanish)  Back to top
MSTCpathways$700,000 in Federal Funding Awarded to Wood County for Pathways Project - New Pathways Project has the potential to bring up to $700K of  funding to greatly enhance the workforce employability. Wood County Department of Social Services in partnership with Mid-State Technical College and Workforce Central a project of Community Foundation of Greater South Wood County has been approved by the USDA for a federal grant to enhance educational opportunities in Wood County.  Read article and view video here.  Back to top

boilerBoiler Operator Training - Power Plant Operating Engineer III ASOPE Licensing - Instructor Don Smith has 37 years experience in boiler and refrigeration plants and 21 years as an instructor in the Power Engineering program at NWTC in Green Bay. A 5-day training will be held at the Royale Inn in Stevens Point and is offered to incumbent Boiler Operators.  ASOPE Licensing contingent on successful completion of exam at end of training.  Get flyer here.  Back to top

Scott Walker WinsgovernorScott Walker's Birthday Present:  Governor's Chair - The Republican son of a preacher celebrated his 43rd birthday Tuesday by blazing past his Democratic challenger, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, to become Wisconsin's next governor. Walker is the first Milwaukee County executive to be elected to the state's top office. Walker's party was packed with supporters attracted to his promises of tax cuts and his fiscally conservative "brown bag" themes: Don't spend more than you have; smaller government is better government; people create jobs, not government.  Read entire article here.   Back to top

September 2010, Wisconsin unemployment rate - 7.0% (unadjusted); 7.8% (seasonally adjusted)
  
September 2010 unemployment rate for our nine-county  NCWWDB area:  7.1% (unadjusted); the highest being Lincoln with 8.8% unemployment
 (5th highest in the state)
 and the lowest being Portage with 5.7%
(60th highest in the state)

For the Program Year 2010 that started July 1, 2010 NCWWDB has 205 Youth, 288 Adults, and 928 Dislocated Workers enrolled in WIA Title 1 funded programs.  
 
  To date, 64 Opportunity Grants have been awarded to 55 Adults.  Opportunity Grants are still available.  Contact Jane Spencer at
