 Talent Has No Boundaries: Workforce Diversity Includes People with Disabilities -Congress has designated October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This effort began in 1945, when Congress declared the first week in October as "National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week." In 1988, they expanded from a week to a month and changed the name.  A major milestone! Job Center of Wisconsin has Posted More than 1 Million Job Openings - DWD Secretary Roberta Gassman recently announced over one million job openings have been posted to JobCenterOfWisconsin.com over the past two years. The online site was launched in September of 2008. Since then, a total of 1,013,060 job openings have been posted by more than 33,500 employers. Read entire release here. Back to top |
 At national workforce conference in Madison, over 25 states cite On-the-Job Training, & other programs that are growing skills, growing jobs & growing America - State workforce agency representatives stood in support of workforce programs such as On-the-Job Training, which this summer received $75 million in ARRA funds from DOL. These new funds will help thousands of dislocated workers across the country get trained and re-employed in the coming months. Read full release here. Back to top |

August 2010, Wisconsin unemployment rate - 7.7% (unadjusted); 7.9% (seasonally adjusted)
August 2010 unemployment rate for our nine-county NCWWDB area: 8.1% (unadjusted); the highest being Lincoln with 9.8% unemployment
(6th highest in the state)
and the lowest being Portage with 6.9% (53rd highest in the state)
There were 5 *WARN notices given in WDA 6 during the period of
January 1, 2010 thru September 15, 2010. Source WorkNet
*WARN is a required communication for those employers with 50 or more employees. Employers with fewer than 50 employees may have laid people off during this time.

WIA Training Report
For the Program Year 2010 that started July 1, 2010 NCWWDB has 189 Youth, 277 Adults, and 920 Dislocated Workers enrolled in WIA Title 1 funded programs.
To date, 70 Adults have received an Opportunity Grant. Opportunity Grants are still available. Contact Jane Spencer at
