Jane Spencer receiving checkmanufacturingDWD Secretary Gassman recently announced $112,760 WIP Grant to train workers for the region's Advanced Manufacturing Sector  - Sec. Gassman awarded the grant to NCWWDB, DWD's regional partner. The board worked with 13 employers and four labor unions to develop the project. Nicolet Area Technical College will train the workers and job seekers.  Read full release here.   Back to top

Secretary Gassman awarding checktranssectorNCWWDB $151K Grant Award will strengthen North Central WI Transportation Sector - DWD Secretary Roberta Gassman recently announced the grant during a visit to NTC's East Campus in Antigo as part of Governor Doyle's "Up North" Tour.  Secretary Gassman announced that the $151,830 Wisconsin Industry Partnership grant will help train workers for the north central region's transportation sector that is expected to add more than 250 jobs by 2014. Read entire release here.  Back to top    
Marathon County SealresearchResearch shows residents think businesses would do well in Marathon County - The finding was part of a larger effort to build a "brand platform" for the county.  North Star Destination Strategies was hired by the Marathon County Economic Development Corporation to provide recommendations for branding and marketing the county to help attract businesses, tourists and residents to north central Wisconsin.  Read the entire article here.  Back to top

July 2010, Wisconsin unemployment rate - 7.8% (unadjusted); 7.8% (seasonally adjusted)
July 2010 unemployment rate for our nine-county  NCWWDB area:  8.2% (unadjusted); the highest being Lincoln with 9.9% unemployment
 (7th highest in the state)
 and the lowest being Portage with 7.0%
(52nd highest in the state)
  There were 5 *WARN notices given in WDA 6 during the period of 
 January 1, 2010 thru August 26, 2010.

WIAreportWIA Training Report
For the Program Year 2010 that started July 1, 2010 NCWWDB has 178 Youth, 277 Adults, and 910 Dislocated Workers enrolled in WIA Title 1 funded programs.  
 
  Our WIA - contracted providers are currently working with 37 young adults who are working in summer worksites across the nine-county area.  
 
 To date, 70 Adults have received an Opportunity Grant.  Opportunity Grants are still available.  Contact Jane Spencer at
