WDA 6 - Workforce News Bulletin

During a recent visit to Mid-State Technical College, Department of Workforce Development Secretary Roberta Gassman delivered the message that Governor Doyle's workforce agenda is to prepare individuals for skilled jobs in the 21st century and highlighted the workforce programs being carried out by the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board that provide opportunities for north central WI workers to build their skills and prepare for opportunities in high-growth industries.  During her message, Secretary Gassman was flanked by a group of individuals who were either still attending or have recently graduated from one of the various workforce training programs offered in NCWWDB's nine-county area.

Governor Jim DoylefourmillionGovernor Doyle Announces $4.55 Million Investment in Worker Training  - Doyle recently announced $4.55 million in federal Workforce Investment Act funding for programs that will prepare Wisconsin workers and employers to compete in the future economy.  DWD will work with workforce development boards, employers, unions, and technical colleges across the state to train workers to meet the changing needs of the state's industries and workforce. VETS logoVETSJob Corps & VETS Help Veterans Start New Career - VETS and Job Corps are partnering in a demo project that will provide Job Corps' comprehensive array of career development services to eligible Veterans 20 to 24 years old to prepare them for successful careers. This is a fully-funded, all expense paid program that includes transportation to and from the Job Corps center, housing, meals, basic medical services, academic and career technical training, bi-weekly living allowance, job placement and post graduation support.  Click here for more information.   Back to top

June 2010, Wisconsin unemployment rate - 8.1% (unadjusted); 7.9% (seasonally adjusted)
 
June 2010 unemployment rate for our nine-county  NCWWDB area:  8.6% (unadjusted); the highest being Lincoln with 10.5% unemployment
 (5th highest in the state)
 and the lowest being Portage with 7.6%
(50th highest in the state)
  There were 4*WARN notices given in WDA 6 during the period of January 1, 2010 thru July 9, 2010.

WIAreportWIA Training Report
  
For the Program Year 2010 that started July 1, 2010 NCWWDB has 159 Youth, 254 Adults, and 867 Dislocated Workers enrolled in WIA Title 1 funded programs.  
 
  Our WIA - contracted providers are currently working with 40 young adults to be placed in summer worksites across the nine-county area.
