NCWWDB's goal is to provide you with the workforce related information you need - whether you're implementing workforce change, grappling with policy issues, or just looking for relevant events and publications. |

Grant will help 2,800 unemployed workers statewide - More help is on the way for displaced workers in Wisconsin. Gov. Doyle recently announced that at least $13.6 million has become available statewide for about 2,800 workers who have lost their jobs due to plant closings and layoffs as part of the National Emergency Grant program. | Boiler Operator Training - Power Plant Operating Engineer III - ASOPE Licensing - Instructor Don Smith has 37 years experience in boiler and refrigeration plants and 21 years as an instructor in the Power Engineering program at NWTC in Green Bay. A 5 day training will be held at the Royale Inn in Stevens Point and is offered to incumbent Boiler Operators. ASOPE Licensing contingent on successful completion of exam at end of training. NCWWDB Awarded Skills Jump Grant - DWD recently announced awarding $39,636 in Skills Jump Start grant funding to NCWWDB and Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander. This grant is geared to help low-wage workers, mainly those without a high school diploma or in need of remedial instruction, build career paths to good jobs in demand occupations.

Statistics Report
February 2010, Wisconsin uemployment rate - 9.7 % (unadjusted); 8.7% (seasonally adjusted)
Source DWD February 2010 unemployment rate for our nine-county NCWWDB area: 10.8% (unadjusted); the highest being Vilas with 13.7% unemployment (4th highest in the state) & the lowest being Portage with 8.4% (61st highest in the state)

There were 3 *WARN notices given in WDA 6 during the period of January 1, 2010 thru March 31, 2010.

*WARN is a required communication for those employers with 50 or more employees. Employers with fewer than 50 employees may have laid people off during this time.

WIA Report
As of 4/2/10, NCWWDB has 369 Youth, 245 Adults, and 1,001 Dislocated Workers enrolled in WIA Title 1- funded programs.
Of the above numbers, there have been 224 Youth, 95 Adults, and 201 Dislocated Workers served by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds.
