Welcome to the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board's first edition of the WDA 6 - Workforce News Bulletin.  Our goal is to provide you with the workforce related  information you need - whether you're implementing workforce change, grappling with policy issues, or looking for relevant events and publications.
2010 DOD Act extends the COBRA Premium Reduction Eligibility - The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), provides for premium reductions for health benefits under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1985.  Read the full story here.

Opportunity Training Grant Helps Individuals in North Central Wisconsin  - The North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board is currently implementing an Opportunity Grant Program. The goal of the program is to help individuals not otherwise eligible for financial aid, improve their skills at technical colleges, earn certificates or degrees and pursue career pathways to better jobs in high-demand occupations, including.  Read program details here: Opportunity Grant. 

Employers Save with WOTC - The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal income tax credit designed to help people gain on-the-job experience and acquire better employment. The WOTC program offers federal tax credits to employers as an incentive to hire people in several specific target groups. Employers can claim up to 40% of the first $6,000 in qualified first-year wages for a maximum credit of $2,400 per new hire.  Click here for more information.

For Young Adults - NCWWDB has funding available through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to provide meaningful paid work experiences for young adults 18-24 who lack work history.  Click here to read the full article.

and  manufacturing  lost 10% of their workforce.

From December 2008 to December 2009 the nine county area had a 4% increase in the Hispanic population , adding an additional 239 people.

*WARN is a required communication for those employers with 50 or more employees. Employers with fewer than 50 employees may have laid people off during this time. 
WIA Classroom Training Report
 

As of  12/21/09 NCWWDB has 842 Dislocated Workers, and 126 Adults enrolled in WIA funded classroom training programs. 

As of 1/22/10
69 Adults and 98
Dislocated Workers are currently enrolled in ARRA funded training.
