So it's February...
 Love shows up when we show up for ourselves. Showing up means being present to what's
occurring in any given situation. When we show up it's an expression of
love. We're giving fully to the moment and our lives change for the
better.
Also this month we're going to talk about the energy centers in the body - Chakras. Contrary to popular belief, this is not some esoteric, mamby-pamby idea. It's as real as the computer you're looking at right now. Everything is energy. We are made of energy. Our bodies may appear solid, but if we were to magnify the cells, molecules and atoms that comprise us, we would find that at our most basic level, we are nothing but a matrix of energy. That's just science. No mamby-pamby here.
So read on, cuz we'll tackle those energy fields for your stinky sneakers too.

Showing Up
Once upon a time in an acting class far, far away...I observed a critique where a very astute acting teacher told the student they "phoned in" their performance. He didn't "show up" as the character he was playing in the scene. As a result the scene fell flat and we never really got a sense of what was going on.
It's easy to "phone in" life. We're all very busy. We don't call each other anymore - we text. We don't wait until we get home to go over emails, we have Blackberry's so we can respond on the run. We even drive-in to get our coffee. It's almost natural these days to be so busy that we don't make time to be fully present and show up.
Life changing events cause us to show up. Last week I had the pleasure of working with the very talented performance coach and dance teacher, Cindera Che, who I fondly call the dance alchemist. The event was Boa Me Beautiful where women have the opportunity to explore their sensuality and inner power through dance and show up in some way to themselves and the audience. It was a transformational journey for me. How can I express in words what is only experienced on a deep personal level. I won't even attempt it. All I know is, I showed up as a dancer that night but more importantly I showed up as a more powerful and present - me. Another example - a friend just told the man she loves that she can't handle the way he doesn't give full attention to their relationship. She showed up for herself in that moment by telling him what she really needed. She will miss the relationship, but she's now in a better relationship with herself. That isreal loving.
Death and birth usually catapult us into a place where we must show up. Everything seems to change and we're more present than ever before. Even if we don't have an event that compels us to show up in our lives, we can go to that still quiet space within ourselves and explore where we're not showing up and go that extra mile. Don't phone it in anymore. You're worth too much. Tomorrow we celebrate Valentine's Day. Give yourself the best gift of love - You... fully present to your life.

Chakras - Your Energy Centers

There are 7 major chakras in the body, about 21 minor chakras and many others that correspond to various acupuncture points. Chakra is sanskrit for "wheel". Your chakras are constantly moving and correspond to the 7 main nerve ganglia which come from the spinal column. The lower 3 chakras are considered feminine as their function is specifically receptive. The upper 4 are masculine because they are primarily concerned with giving energy in the form of love and communication. Below are explanations of the 7 chakras.
1st Chakra - Root chakra - Color is Red
Located at the base of the spine. This chakra is primarily connected with feelings of protection, self-preservation, and grounding ourselves.
2nd Chakra - Sacral Plexus chakra - Color is Orange
Located below the navel. This chakra stores our sexual energy, feelings, food issues and creativity.
3rd Chakra - Solar Plexus chakra - Color is Yellow
The Solar Plexus chakra is located above the navel, right below the diaphragm. Here you have your money and work issues, plus feelings around personal power and ego.
4th Chakra - Heart chakra - Color is Green
Located in the middle of the chest. Here we carry our feelings of love, forgiveness and compassion.
5th Chakra -Throat chakra - Color is Blue
Located in the middle of the throat. This chakra has to do with communication. Also - feelings around truth and integrity.
6th Chakra - Brow (3rd eye)chakra - Color is Indigo (midnight blue)
Located in the center of the forehead. This chakra stores your intuition, wisdom and intellect.
7th Chakra - Crown chakra - Color is Violet (or white)
Located at the top of the head. Here rests our spirituality, connection to the universe, enlightenment and transformation.

 We've all had those smelly sneaker moments. It can be really embarrassing. Here's a great, inexpensive way of dealing with it. Use newspaper! That's right! Any kind of newspaper will do. Just crumple it up, and stuff it in your sneakers. So the next time you're ready to slip into your kicks...they won't be kickin' with stink. |
