Greetings!
UFFDA! What a show!!!! I now know how much fun squirrels have when they are chasing each other through the leaves, snow, and trees. Every turn I made at the quilt show I met a friend, saw something I just had to have and then to roam through the quilts--What could get better! Congratulations to all the entries and winners for both the AQS and Des Moines Show. We sure know how to quilt in Iowa--awesome design, color, and imagination. SPECIAL THANKS to Martha Henrichs, Kathi Russi and the Show Committee. Your time and efforts to make this a special event were not wasted--it was marvelous and a great time had by all. Also much THANKS to the efforts of Jill Reber and Mary Shotwell which occur year after year. The logistics and negotiations with AQS are time consuming and much appreciated.
I am in the throes of completing the nominations for the upcoming board. Please let me or any other board member know if you are interested in a position. The positions being voted on this year are: Vice President, Recording Secretary, a Director at Large, Program Chair Elect(s), and Quilt Show Elect(s). The Committee Members are co-chairs for Community Service, Library, Retreat, and Newsletter Editor. We are fortunate to have candidates for the VP, Recording Secretary, Community Service, and Newsletter Editor spots. It is an honor to be a part of this Guild and being on the board is an extension to meet and work with great friends--many of my quilting friends have been a result of working together on previous boards and committees.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for Saturday, December 3rd for the annual tea. Last year it was such a great kickoff to the holiday season for me. Not only do we know how to quilt but baking treats is right up there. The board has been busy reviewing the by-laws and we will get the changes out to you in November for your review before the December Tea.
Even though I saw so many at the show, I'm looking forward to our October meeting again. It seems like a long time and so much has taken place since our August meeting. Many will be starting to travel to their winter lodgings and the holidays will be upon us. Take this month to treat yourself to hear Anita Shackelford and if you have time--take a class!!!!
See you soon!

Quilt Show News
You did it---you put on another fabulous quilt show! A huge thank you to every member who helped make the 2011 DMAQG Quilt Show a success, especially the volunteers, committee chairs, and everyone who entered quilts. We heard so many wonderful compliments from attendees about how much they enjoyed our show and the quilts all of you make. Visitors were also very impressed with the number and variety of veterans quilts. The raffle quilt was won by Lorraine Gibbons, one of our members. The winners among the judged quilts are posted on our website. We're compiling the results of the show (raffle quilt and little quilt sales, attendance, etc.) and will share this information at the December tea. We can't thank you enough for everything that each of you did to make our quilt show such a success!

Community Service
I hope you were able to stop and look at the Community Service display at the AQS/DMAQG quilt show. Deanna, Joan Rotert, and Lola Zimmerman did a wonderful job putting together our display. I spoke with numerous people during the show who were very impressed with how involved our Guild is in the community.
The October meetings are your final chance to turn in community service donations. From the top donors in each category we will draw one name at the December meeting. That person will receive a $75 gift card to one of the local quilt shops.
At the October 1 p.m. meeting we will be presenting the Festival of Trees quilt made by our Guild to Sandy Donahue. Check out the Festival of Trees website to see the quilt and to learn more about the event.
Carolyn Eliason, Community Service Chair
Earlier this year Carolyn Eliason was contacted by the State of Iowa Historical Society regarding a special Flag Day Event to be held in June. Families of deployed soldiers were invited to attend and participate in many crafting and learning opportunities.
The Twisted Sisters small group provided a quilt to go home with one family. The Brinker family from the Des Moines area received our quilt and sent us this photograph with their safely returned soldier. We hope that this quilt will provide many years of comfort for this proud military family.

Little Quilts
A Huge "Thank You" to All Who Participated In the Silent Auction.
The Silent Auction was an enormous success this year. We had 99 wonderful little quilts donated by our very talented members that raised approximately $3,600--final counts are not yet completed. We heard so many comments from people about the diversity and wonderful quality of our little quilts. We "thank" everyone who made a little quilt, everyone who bid and bought one, and all those who volunteered during the show. We could not do this without your full support.
Leigh Lussie, Quilt Show Committee

Treats for 2012 Guild Meetings
At our October meeting, we will pass around sign-up sheets so you can be the first ones to volunteer to bring treats for next year's Guild meetings!!! We all enjoy the socializing after the meetings and love to have that cup of coffee or lemonade and a cookie or two. You will need to plan on an average of 150 members in the afternoon and 100 in the evening.
December Tea
The annual Holiday Tea will be held Saturday, December 3rd at 9:00 AM at the Learning Resource Center (the building east of the West Des Moines Public Library, at 4000 Mills Civic Parkway). There will be a business meeting with the introduction and installation of the 2012 Guild officers. This will be the first opportunity to sign up for workshops offered in 2012. Forms will be available for membership and renewal at the meeting and also the Guild's website. Dues will again be $30.00 for 2012. All Guild members are invited to come and encouraged to bring a tray of their favorite holiday goodies to share. Coffee and tea will be provided.
