At our next guild meeting on Tuesday, September 28, we welcome Sheila Green from the International Quilt Study Center & Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska.
"3500 Quilts and Counting:
A Volunteer's Perspective"
This talk covers the history of the museum as well as what they are doing today. Sheila will give us information about what she does at the museum as a volunteer, what classes she has taught at the museum, and how the Lincoln and Nebraska State Quilt guilds support the museum.
Sheila lives in Lincoln with her husband Ken. She started quilting 15 years ago. She has taught quilting to children and adults and has lead work-shops in the public schools, The Museum of Nebraska History and the International Quilt Study Center and Museum and is on the Board of the FRIENDS of the International Quilt Study Center and Museum. She loves researching the exhibitions and sharing the history for the art of quilting with the museum visitors, young and old.
Since the museum's quilt collection is preserved in a controlled atmosphere, Sheila will not be able to bring any quilts with her. However, part of her program will be a power point presentation with pictures of some of the 3500 quilts.
Please invite others whom you think might enjoy this program. The lecture fee for non-members is only $5.
Guild meetings are held at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church at 8th & Grand, in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Greetings!
THANK YOU! The Women's Health Charity Auction gathered $12,999.51 and the monies were distributed as follows: Hospice of Central Iowa $5,461.90, Susan G. Komen $4,452.68, and American Heart Association $3,084.93. Your generosity is so amazing and I know all the efforts you put into having this event each year. Special Thanks to all of the volunteers that supported the Mall in the Hall and the Auction. You all made it so effortless.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! to all the State Fair Ribbon Winners! Doesn't it feel special to know that we have had a sneak preview in our Show & Tell and how great it feels to see ribbons attached to our Friend's quilts. We are so fortunate to belong and have such a talented/diverse quilt guild. The Fair gets me excited to see the Quilt Show. I always walk out with admiration and inspiration. I just need a few little quilting elves to get all that inspiration down in fabric.
Remember to be working on your President's Challenge "Winter Wonderland". The weather may be here before I get mine finished but I do have an idea and have purchased the right fabrics to make it happen. It's one of the few shopping trips that I knew what I needed before I bought the fabric. We have such great shops in our area that help support our habit.
The leaves are starting to get that feeling of change. The colors of the foliage and the crisp, cool air always get me moving. Take the time to enjoy the season, put a pot of soup on, and enjoy your quilting time. There's nothing better--except taking a weekend to come to the Quilt Show and enjoy it with friends!
