The mission of the Des Moines Area Quilters Guild is to stimulate an interest in quilts and quilt making, educating its members, and provide for the interchange of information. (Adopted -- September 20, 2003).

NEW LOCATION FOR WORKSHOPS --
The May workshop has been moved to a new location. It will be at the Wildwood Lodge, 11431 Forest Avenue in Clive.
From the West Des Moines intersection of 50th and University, head west to 114th Street, turn north onto 114th Street, and turn west onto Forest Avenue. Follow Forest Avenue until you reach Wildwood Lodge. You may park on either side of the building and come in through the lobby. Signs will direct you to the proper room.

Wednesday, May 26 (9am - 4pm) - GATEWAY TO MONGOLIA - The olzii, or never-ending knot, is a traditional Mongolian motif symbolizing the dynamic expanse of the universe and the endless cycles of life and death. Learn about another culture while making this beautiful quilt.
Thursday, May 27 (9am - 4pm) - BARGELLO QUILTS WITH A TWIST - The bargello block is a new concept with enormous potential for creating your own designs. This strip-pieced block is easy to make and can be arranged in a great variety of ways. You will be amazed at the possibilities.

Wednesday, June 23 (9am - 4pm) - SIZE REALLY DOES MATTER* - In this class you will learn the entire process for making a miniature "gem" from the design of a block and pattern right thru to the construction process. Learn tips that will take the guesswork out of joining patches and blocks, without using pins.
Thursday, June 24 (9am - 4 pm) - TWIRLING LOGS* -George & Virginia will show you how to draft this wonderful 7" block, and you do not have to be an engineer! This is not a miniature quilt block.
*Both classes require Kit#1 which includes: (1) a seam allowance guide, (2) a 9 page booklet (for future use), and (3) the workshop pattern with all foundations, block schematic, cutting chart and a worksheet. Cost is $20 at the time of the class.

Wednesday, July 28 (9am - 4pm) - STARS IN QUILTS This workshop features 15 different star patterns. Through these patterns students will look at star blocks, layouts, sashings and different techniques to set stars in quilts.
Thursday, July 29 (9am - 4pm) - FRIENDSHIP TRIANGLES - Have a wonderful time exchanging fabrics through half square triangles. View 15 plus quilts that will inspire and encourage everyone to create beautiful projects. This workshop allows quilters to concentrate on the true meaning of quilting which is sharing and friendship.

Wednesday, October 27 (9am - 4 pm) - CRAZY ABOUT CURVES - Vikki's basic and most popular class. This is a hands-on/in-depth technique using a simple pattern. Explore her piecing/applique method of creating sharp curves and narrow points effortlessly and with precision. This is a technique class for all skill levels.
Thursday, October 28 (9am - 4pm) - IMPROVISATIONAL CURVES - This relaxing, impromptu approach to piecing curves offers students total freedom in quiltmaking. Create several blocks of shapes (circles, ovals, curvy rectangles.....) learn manipulations and how to arrange shapes into a free-form contemporary quilt. All skill levels.
