Workshops are held at Legacy Pointe located at 1650 SE Holiday Crest Drive in Waukee:
Take Hickman Road (Hwy 6) west of I-35/80 for 3 miles to the intersection of 156th and Hickman Road which has a Dahls and a Walgreens. Continue west a 1/3 of a mile and turn left (south) at the SE Legacy Pointe Blvd street sign (just past Tuffy and before Earl May). Follow it around to a 3-story building. Go around to the back. When you come in the door, turn to your left and the community room is right there. The phone number for Legacy Pointe is 515-987-3625.

Kay's thoughts about foundation piecing
Paper piecing gives me hives.........I abhor ripping out those pieces of paper, shortening my stitch length and having stress while stitching. However, the sharp angles and crisp lines that are possible with paper piecing are intriguing. My design sensibility is angular and asymmetrical, and those qualities are certainly possible to achieve with paper piecing. But is it the only way? Of course not! No-stress foundation piecing is simple and fun and yields terrific results.Any paper piecing pattern out there can be done with this method.
.....I want you to enjoy foundation piecing as much as I do. It opens up incredible design and quilting opportunities that we shouldn't miss!
Wednesday, April 28 (9am - 4pm) -- CONTRAST IN THE PINES (using Pole Pines) -- Using only black and white, we will look at the importance of contrast in simple yet effective pieces while we learn how to foundation piece with no stress! Kay will teach you her easy and fun method for no stress foundation piecing and cover ways to deal with "opportunities" that arise while creating our blocks. (Mistake is not a part of Kay's vocabulary! Leave your seam ripper at home!!)
We will play with various fabric combinations and evaluate our fabric choices during class. We will piece some blocks (or work toward completion) of our actual pines quilt.
Thursday, April 29 (9am - noon) -- SLAP HAPPY
This fun and wacky quilt was designed by Kay to clean out her studio. She was attempting to shrink her Christmas Novelty stash.It can be made in red, white, and blue, black n' white and red...you name it---it will look great in this quilt! This is an absolutely no stress, no headache foundation pieced quilt. You can use new yardage or scraps -- you just slap and go (and count) and you will have a fabulous quilt.
Thursday, April 29 (6pm - 9 pm) EVENING CLASS -- FUN RAGGY EDGES -- This scrappy, raggedy quilt was designed as a tribute to Kay's friend Dorothy. It is a cuddly and fun quilt. The piecing and cutting are no stress - raw edge and freehand circles. It doesn't get any easier than that! This quilt is great in summer colors, Christmas colors, the dark and dirties, brights, or anything you can imagine! Pull out your stash and get creative!

Wednesday, May 26 (9am - 4pm) - GATEWAY TO MONGOLIA - The olzii, or never-ending knot, is a traditional Mongolian motif symbolizing the dynamic expanse of the universe and the endless cycles of life and death. Learn about another culture while making this beautiful quilt.
Thursday, May 27 (9am - 4pm) - BARGELLO QUILTS WITH A TWIST - The bargello block is a new concept with enormous potential for creating your own designs. This strip-pieced block is easy to make and can be arranged in a great variety of ways. You will be amazed at the possibilities.

Wednesday, June 23 (9am - 4pm) - SIZE REALLY DOES MATTER* - In this class you will learn the entire process for making a miniature "gem" from the design of a block and pattern right thru to the construction process. Learn tips that will take the guesswork out of joining patches and blocks, without using pins.
Thursday, June 24 (9am - 4 pm) - TWIRLING LOGS* -George & Virginia will show you how to draft this wonderful 7" block, and you do not have to be an engineer! This is not a miniature quilt block.
*Both classes require Kit#1 which includes: (1) a seam allowance guide, (2) a 9 page booklet (for future use), and (3) the workshop pattern with all foundations, block schematic, cutting chart and a worksheet. Cost is $15 at the time of the class.

Wednesday, July 28 (9am - 4pm) - STARS IN QUILTS This workshop features 15 different star patterns. Through these patterns students will look at star blocks, layouts, sashings and different techniques to set stars in quilts.
Thursday, July 29 (9am - 4pm) - FRIENDSHIP TRIANGLES - Have a wonderful time exchanging fabrics through half square triangles. View 15 plus quilts that will inspire and encourage everyone to create beautiful projects. This workshop allows quilters to concentrate on the true meaning of quilting which is sharing and friendship.

Wednesday, October 27 (9am - 4 pm) - CRAZY ABOUT CURVES - Vikki's basic and most popular class. This is a hands-on/in-depth technique using a simple pattern. Explore her piecing/applique method of creating sharp curves and narrow points effortlessly and with precision. This is a technique class for all skill levels.
Thursday, October 28 (9am - 4pm) - IMPROVISATIONAL CURVES - This relaxing, impromptu approach to piecing curves offers students total freedom in quiltmaking. Create several blocks of shapes (circles, ovals, curvy rectangles.....) learn manipulations and how to arrange shapes into a free-form contemporary quilt. All skill levels.
