We asked for public feedback this spring and people responded. They told us they want Northstar Commuter Rail trains to travel all the way to St. Cloud.
Seventy-nine percent of respondents to a Northstar Corridor Development Authority (NCDA) survey support government funding to continue rail service from Big Lake to St. Cloud. The online survey was taken by more than 1,700 Northstar customers and members of the general public.
We're committed to making Northstar train service to St. Cloud a reality. We are pursuing federal funding for design and construction of the extension, which was part of Northstar's original plan. But your continued support is critical. As you talk to state and federal policymakers - and candidates - over the coming months, tell them how important St. Cloud train service is to you.
Results from the unscientific online survey, as well as a St. Cloud Metro Bus survey of Northstar Link coach bus riders, provide additional insight that helps us plan for future service in the corridor. The surveys tell us that:
- Most people consider Northstar a safe and convenient transportation option.
- Northstar train riders like the amenities the trains currently offer, agree that the trains are more convenient than driving and find Northstar an affordable option.
- Northstar Link bus riders named affordable cost and low stress as their key motivations to ride.
Thank you for your input and support of Northstar. Together, we can continue to make train and bus service a success, and eventually extend train service to St. Cloud.
