Dear Fellow Member,

Welcome to 2012 - Nutmeg PWD Club has its usual events coming up for you along with a new WATER FUN DAY on June 23rd - watch for the sign up on our website.

Our Health Clinic will be Sunday April 15, hips and elbows and CERF eyes. There is free one-time CERF on any dog over 7 years of age. The form will be on our website in the next two weeks.

Our agility trial is on Sunday May 13th and we would love you to volunteer to help. You will read more about it soon, but mark the date now!

The Westminster Kennel Club show in New York was held on Tuesday February 14th. There were 20 PWDs in Ring One, and several Nutmeggers, including myself, on the grounds to cheer on the dogs. Seen at the show were Jane Freeman, Ylisa Kunze, Patty Hobin, Patti Cox, Marie Forgach, Laura Taft-Paulsen, Ginnie Santoli, Mary Nottingham, Fran Brown, Kathy Ferrandino, and huge apologies to anyone I missed - it was so crowded it was hard to see everyone.

The winning dog, BEST OF BREED, was a Nutmegger too - it was Gr Ch Freestyle The Wiz, bred by Jane Freeman, owned by Marie Forgach, handled by Kim Pastella-Calvacca. Jane was a three-time winner at Westminster with Wiz's dad, Spencer so it was an even sweeter win for Freestyle! I'm sure you were all glued to your TV screen on Tuesday night to watch "Oz" and Kim parade around the Working Group ring. He looked wonderful.

See you all in the spring!

Jane.

Nutmeg PWD Annual Meeting and Potluck Luncheon Jan. 29, 2012

By Patty Hobin

Nutmeg Portuguese Water Dog Club held its annual meeting on January 29th in an office building caf in Stamford, CT. This location was a change from the regular meet place in New Cannan, CT due to a conflict at the Teen Center. The accommodations worked well and even seemed a bit cozier.

The potluck luncheon opened the event with the usual good food Nutmeg's members are known for.

A letter of Thanks from the Deyanne Miller Scholarship Fund Committee

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Cheryl and Carole,
I am writing to you as the chair of the Deyanne Miller Scholarship Fund.  I can't thank you enough for coordinating the sale of the DER AGITATOR print.  Through your hard work and the generosity of the Nutmeg PWD Club, its members, and all of those who purchased the print, the Deyanne Miller Scholarship Fund has been increased by over $8,000 with your donation. I feel confident that Deyanne's memory will continue to live on through the awarding of scholarships to deserving PWDCA members and their children for many years to come.
Thank you,
Oops! Labradoodle Creator Now Regrets Cross-Breeding
MeetTheBreeds
Meet the Breeds at the Javits Center, New York, NY
Written by Patty Hobin
On November 19th and 20th Nutmeg participated in the AKC sponsored Meet the Breeds at the Javits Center in New York City. The AKC was expecting over 35,000 attendees and 200 breed booths.
The Portuguese Water Dog Club of America supplies us with lovely large photos to adorn our booth as you can see in the picture below. Yilsa Kunze supplied the rug and other accoutrements to complete the look. She also did all the setting up and breaking down.
Thank you to the follow members that spent time with their dogs so the public could learn more about our wonderful breed. Ylisa with Karma, Richard with Huck Finn, Patty Hobin with Nettie and then Pepper, Patti Cox with Finne. Also Laura Taft-Paulsen stopped by with Hestia after she completed her agility demonstration with the Portchester Agility Club.
