Dear Fellow Member,

I hope you are all enjoying this Summer newsletter. Nutmeg is always a busy club in the Spring and Summer. We start the year with our Health Clinic, so efficiently run by Sam Bell and her mother Kathy O'Rourke, ably assisted by Cheryl Rutz. As usual the clinic ran as clockwork, and there were dog owners from breeds other than PWDs who said: "we'll come here every year, it's so quick and organized - we are IN and OUT"!... Congrats to our workers at the clinic!

The agility trial is run by a committee headed by Laura Taft-Paulsen who does a superb job, and congratulations to our HIGH IN TRIAL owner Brian McGunigle and Gracie, and a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who helped run the show.

Our Specialty was a great event with top winning dogs and whilst the weather was less than we wanted, the new Nutmeg 30th Anniversary micro-fleece tops were a great success! We will have these and  all our other goodies, plus the wonderful umbrellas with the logo on them at our Water Trials in August (the 20th and 21st in Monroe CT) and September (the 10th and 11 in Farmington CT), and you can always email me or call me to place an order or to find out more about them.

Please also note the wonderful DER AGITATOR print that's available to benefit the Deyanne Miller Scholarship Fund. Deyanne founded the Nutmeg Club 30 years ago and I know is very very proud that we are still working and enjoying the club. She was determined that we run the first AKC Match as part of the AKC's Specialty Club requirements to have an independent Specialty, and of course, Nutmeg ran the first Water Trial for PWDCA and also Nutmeg was the first club to be AKC approved as a local specialty Club.

Please don't forget that the PWDCA's National Specialty will be in Callaway Gardens, Georgia this September. Nutmeg PWD Club donates to the Trophy Fund, to the Raffles and puts an advertisement in the show catalog. If you would like to support all those PWDs showing up for the event, please visit http://www.pwdcaspecialty.org/.  I will be driving down there and I know that Jane Freeman, Terri Pecora, Marie Forgach, Patti Cox and several other Nutmeggers will be attending.

Greenwich Kennel Club Results

It was cold! It was windy! It was fun! ? ! ? !

On June 11, 2011, Nutmeg PWD members and friends once again came together to support the entry at the Greenwich Kennel Club show.  We also celebrated Nutmeg's 30th anniversary as a club.

The turnout was respectable considering the less than great weather and of course the luncheon and raffle items were spectacular. The club would like to thank all of the people who donated items to make the raffle such a success.

Grace, Bantry's Got a Brand New Bag , was the PWD high in trial. Go Gracie!

Nutmeg hosted an AKC All Breed Agility trial at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights, NY. The day was filled to the maximum with 660 entries by the second day after the event opened for applications! Yes that means that in two rings, there is a dog and handler team running the courses from 7 am to almost 5 pm. It is an action packed day.

Lightning Safety Tips for Anyone Who is Near the Water ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LightningPix
"If you can see it, flee it; if you can hear it, clear it"

Sudden squalls are a common hazard for boaters. Lightning-producing thunderstorms can occur at any time,  but are most likely from July through mid-September. Storms can trap boaters on the water too far from shore to seek safe shelter, placing them at risk of being struck by lightning.
