Dear Fellow Member,

Welcome to 2011, Nutmeg PWD Club's 30th anniversary year. We are busy

creating some special items for you all to celebrate our 30TH Anniversary. The
winner of the Anniversary Motif Contest was NICK CEPPI - thank you Nick!

If you haven't got the 2001 calendar to mark all those important dates in your life,

we have a FEW calendars left. Go to www.nutmegpwd.org to find the reduced price
and order your's now. Nutmeg's special dates are all marked on the calendar.

I'm happy to report that the Dry Dock Seminar in March is full except for auditors.

We have our usual great events coming up this year. Some highlights include:

  • The Health Clinic on April 10th. Please sign your dogs up now - even your older dogs. We know that most breeders would like you to eye check your dogs every two years and this is the cheapest way to do it... the CERF price is the lowest in the area at $25.00 per dog, and the hip x-ray prices are the lowest around too!
  • The Agility Trial in May. You'll read elsewhere that the premium is UP. All entrants that volunteer are welcome to send me their entries and I will Fedex them to the trial secretary so they'll get there first thing. Our agility trial usually fills up within a couple of days of the opening date. DON"T DELAY!
  • The Greenwich KC's show in Norwalk on June 11th. It's sure to be another great event. We have some superb new awards for those that enter their dogs.
    • Remember that obedience and rally are offered here as well and some of us are already training our dogs for those events - Nutmeg offers special awards for PWDS in obedience and rally!

Happy training and playing and remember, keep taking those pics for the 2012.

Calendar - the submission information is in this newsletter.

Trials cannot run without volunteers. Exhibitors new to competition may be reluctant to volunteer due to uncertainty over what a special job entails. Following is some general information about the jobs that need to be done for each class so you can see what you might be interested in doing to help at our next trial.

AKC: The Importance of Registering your PWD

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not only do registrations fund AKC's efforts in protecting dog owners' rights and promoting responsible dog ownership, they also support the advancement of canine health and well-being. Ensuring that 100% of the puppies you produce are registered is the best way to make certain of the AKC's long and healthy future and the continued success of what ultimately registrations do for you.
 A man, three dogs and a life well lived together!
by Mike Gallagher
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mike Gallagher, longtime Nutmeg PWD Club member, now lives in Sebastian FL. Mike currently owns two PWDs, Tiki and DJ. Mike adopted DJ from Mike Schorr, Claudia Mohr's husband after Claudia's death. Claudia was a long-time Nutmeg member and Board member, and bred DJ.  Mike is enjoying the benefits of Claudia's early training on DJ who is getting ready to compete in agility and water, along with Tiki who already has her AWD! Here is their story...

New York State Information Alert!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Currently the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets handles dog licensing for most municipalities in the state.  In the 2010 budget passed by the New York Legislature, this responsibility was <
http://www.agmkt.state.ny.us/AI/DogLic.html> handed over to local municipalities, effective January 1, 2011.
The American Kennel Club encourages all dog owners to know, understand, and follow the laws of their jurisdictions. In response to this new licensing structure, we strongly suggest that dog owners in the state of New York should closely monitor new ordinances and regulations proposed by their
county and city governments that will determine local licensing fees, requirements and changes to animal control policies.
