From Tanker to Transport
T2 Tanker
Look Familiar?

Did you know...

The very first containership ever was the Ideal-X, an old T2 oil tanker or "navy oiler" built for use in the Second World War.  The idea for its use in commercial shipping was the brainchild of American trucker, Malcom McLean. Its maiden voyage?  To carry 58 containers from Newark, New Jersey to our very own

Port of Houston.

The last T2 tanker in the world was the Santa Ynez- pictured to the right.  Click here for a slideshow of the Santa Ynez on its final voyage to Brownsville, TX.
