Columbus Day
The Many Faces of Discovery
compassNoted by one journalist as a mix of both myth and history, traditionally the United States recognizes Columbus Day by official holiday, when people recount and reenact when Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas.  But the day has come to mean many different things to many different peoples.  In much of the Americas, Columbus Day is known as Día de la Raza, Friendship Day in Puerto Rico & the Virgin Islands, Discovery Day in some continental states and the Bahamas, Día de la Hispanidad and Fiesta Nacional in Spain and as Día de las Américas (Day of the Americas) in Uruguay. While the holiday is usually tied to themes of discovery and social progress, Columbus day observations have also come to be inclusive of indigenous American cultures, symbolize Catholic immigrant citizenship and celebrate Italian-American heritage.  But the holiday come to have many different meanings and known by many different names.

We here at Triton embrace the spirit and adventure of this October holiday and its place in maritime lore.

Stay Tuned...
The Triton Team will be attending the (HMAA) Houston Maritime Arbitrators Association Charity Golf Tournament happening this week.  We promise pictures of our good sportsmen in future eFlyers.
