Sharing the South

January 2012

 Greetings!

As the sun begins its slow return, the Center is gearing up for an event-filled semester. On January 19th, at 4:30, Dr. Giselle Corbie-Smith will present a Hutchins Lecture entitled, "Through Their Lens: Understanding and Advocating for Heath Equity."

Tuesday, January 24th, please join us at 5:30 pm, at the Center, for a reception to celebrate the opening of South Carolina textile artist Ellen Kochansky's exhibition, which will be hanging in the Love House gallery through April. There will also be a special musical performance by members of the New Music Collective, based in Charleston, SC and friends of the artist.

Ellen owns and designs for EKO in rural South Carolina. She has made quilts and textile art for over 30 years and has served as an American Canvas panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts, and as a trustee of the American Crafts Council. Her works are in many public and private collections, including the Museum of Art + Design in NY, and the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC. The New Music Collective (NMC) was founded in 2005 to meet the needs of a community with no support for contemporary music in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Since that time, the NMC has educated the public about new music through concerts, performances, lectures, workshops, and collaborations with artists of every medium.

Please check our website for the most up-to-date information on the Center and its programs. We also have active Facebook pages and Twitter feeds. We hope to see or hear from you soon!
