This e-update is produced by the Exmoor National Park Authority as part of the Exmoor Tourism Partnership to keep tourism providers updated with the latest news and to encourage the development of Sustainable Tourism on Exmoor.

Exmoor Tourism Conference unites businesses

The Exmoor Tourism Conference on the 23 November 2011 was filled to capacity and gave businesses and tourism organisations a unique opportunity to hear from Visit England, to discuss a whole range of initiatives taking place on Exmoor and to think strategically about the future of tourism in the area.

 

Presentations and follow up notes from the conference can be found on the Exmoor Tourism Partnership website. Next years conference is scheduled for the 28 November 2012 so make a note in your diary today!

Exmoor Awareness coming soon!

Keep a look out for the 2012 series of Exmoor Awareness to be announced soon. This annual series of workshops provides tourism providers a first hand opportunity to gain a greater understanding about what makes Exmoor so special and to learn facts and tales to make your customers visit even more memorable.

Transport Funding Consultation

Exmoor Visitor 2010Somerset County Council have published a consultation identifying proposed funding withdrawal of several bus services including the iconic 300 Coastal Link service from Minehead to Lynmouth and the 401 Exmoor Link from Dulverton to Lynmouth. The deadline for online responses to the proposals is this Friday 13th January. To register your views click here.

 

It is understood that there are no proposals to change services in the Devon area of the National Park. You can view a video of the 300 service here.

BBC Stargazing Live comes to Exmoor

Exmoor Transport GuideNext week sees the return of the BBC's popular Stargazing Live series for 3 days from the 16 - 18 January and this year of course Exmoor has joined the world elite of dark sky designated places. A stargazing event is being hosted by the National Park Authority and partners at Dunster Tithe Barn on the 17th but please be aware the event is already very well subscribed - for details and booking info click here.

 

Exmoor, and in particular Dulverton, will be in the public gaze when the programme films live the 'big switch off' when residents and businesses in the town will be joining forces to dim their lights to demonstrate the impact of lighting on our night skies - this will be an impressive sight to watch from the comfort of your own homes on TV! In addition, weather permitting, this Thursday the One Show will be filming at Wimbleball featuring astro-photography.

Dark Sky Pocket Guide
St Pauls Carnival A new Dark Skies Guide has been published for the National Park, following its designation as Europe's first International Dark Sky Reserve. With tips on what to see and where to go the guide will be an invaluable resource to all those wishing to explore the night skies of Exmoor.

 

The guide complements the main National Park Pocket Guide and dispensers are available for those wishing to distribute copies in return for donations to CareMoor for Exmoor. The guide can also be viewed online along with other dark sky resources here

 

Exmoor 2012

A national distribution programme is underway as part of the Exmoor Tourism Partnerships agreed marketing plan which also includes national and regional advertising, support to the ETA to attend shows and exhibitions and much more. 

 

Exmoor Exchange 2012

The popular literature exchange for tourism providers returns on the 8 March at a new venue within the Minehead Eye from 11am to 2.30pm. Entry is free to non exhibitors and no booking is required. To exhibit and distribute material please download a booking form and full details from the Exmoor Tourism Partnership website.

 

TV Coverage for Exmoor

tvOver the past year Exmoor National Park Authority, working with partners, has secured opportunities to show the beauty of Exmoor on TV. Coverage has included an entire programme of the popular BBC AutumnWatch filmed on Exmoor, ITV's Adventurers Guide to Britain, BBC CountryFile and Country Tracks, the One Show and StarGazing Live to follow soon (see above).

Battle the Bills

St Pauls CarnivalIf you've missed previous opportunities there is one chance left to attend Battle the Bills to reduce your overheads on the 24 January at the Genesis Centre in Taunton at 10.30am.

The hour-long workshop is  free of charge to attend and features priorities for:
- Cutting Energy & Water Bills
- Switching Energy Providers
- Working out whether Renewable Energy is for you

Countryside Sports support

St Pauls CarnivalThe South West Country Sports project aims to attract new people to undertake country sports and to attract more country sports fans to the south west. Businesses that provide services catering for county sports can get a free web listing and there is support available to assist businesses to offer a better experience for country sport lovers. Tourism Business Survey

Thanks to all those that spared a few minutes of their time to respond to the 2011 Tourism Business Survey. Full results will be published in the new State of Tourism report to be published soon and the findings will be considered by partners in the Exmoor Tourism Partnership as future initiatives to support and develop tourism are considered. Congratulations to Crown Cottage at Exford who were drawn at random to win a £20 gift voucher.
