Festival highlights include: highland athletic and dance competitions, piping competitions culminating in a massed pipe band performance, Scottish country dancing, clans, living history encampment, fiddling events, Scottish dog events, children's games, musical performances, British car show and a variety of food and craft vendors.

The Wine Festival at The Plains and The 24th annual Commonwealth Cup of Polo come together for a weekend of great wine, great food, great art and great international polo - USA vs Great Britain - at Great Meadow Events Center in The Plains.

The Wine Festival at The Plains brings Virginia's Tasting Rooms together in one location for a grand celebration of the 2009 vintage harvest. Guests of this event will discover a selection of over 250 locally-grown artisan wines being produced in the boutique wineries of Virginia, including many that are rarely brought out of the tasting room.

The Commonwealth Cup is the oldest and one of the most highly attended polo matches in the country, typically attracting more spectators than the U.S. Polo Open. In this rousing and spirited annual challenge, the best players in the US square off against an elite team of Brits from the British Forces Foundation for a key benefit match.  The combined event, dubbed "The Commonwealth Polo & Wine Event at The Plains" also features gourmet cuisine prepared by the region's best chefs, a select group of fine art and fancy food vendors, wine pairing and tasting demonstrations, hat and tailgate contests, the traditional champagne divot stomp, limo winery tours and more throughout the weekend for a delightful Autumn afternoon of good fun for a very good cause.

Here, he sells his mouth-watering pastries, breads, sweets & pies, granola and jams; and coming in September... longer hours, fresh sandwiches and hearty soups using local, seasonal ingredients.

 "The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze."
