We are pleased to invite you to join us for our fourth annual Veterans Day Commemoration at Riverside Cemetery next Friday. We will be honoring all veterans of the armed forces at the site of our proposed Veterans Memorial Plaza.  . Military honors will be conducted by the 48th IBCT (Infantry Brigade Combat Team).  

 

The speakers on this occasion will be Jennifer O'Kelley and her father, Tom Stevens. Ms. O'Kelley will give a fascinating account of her ancestors who lost their four sons in the Civil War.  Mr. Stevens will share stories of middle Georgia military who lost their lives during the Vietnam War.  Mr. Stevens will show a scrapbook of stories and mementos from families of 89 men in a seven county area and displayed these when the Moving Vietnam Wall Memorial came to Macon.  In addition, the names of veterans interred at Riverside Cemetery since November 11 of 2010 will be read aloud during the ceremony.  

 

The public is invited to this event. Visitors should enter the cemetery at the corner of Madison Street and Riverside Drive and will be directed to parking. 

 

Janet Butler Walker, Chairman of the Board, Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy, and Peter E. Dennis, Chairman of the Board, Riverside Cemetery, Inc. will be here to welcome you.

        • Posting of the Colors
        • Presentation of Veterans interred within the last year at Riverside Cemetery
        • A veteran's spirit, dramatic presentation
        • Guest Speakers 
        • Wreath laying
        • Playing of Taps
        • Twenty-One Gun Salute
        • Moment of Silence

Candle Light Apparitions at The Cannonball House

Time: Hourly Tours Starting at 5:00 PM
Where: Cannonball House, 856 Mulberry St., Macon, GA

Bring your group and be guided, by nothing but candle light, through of one of Macon's most historic attractions, The Cannonball House. Be a silent witness to the House residents and other popular Macon figures as they would have lived during the 19th Century. See the beautiful 1853 Greek revival house illuminated as it would have been during the period in which it was built. Regular admission will be charged.
