This Place Matters Photo Contest: VOTE NOW!
Helping people protect, enhance, and enjoy the places that matter to them.

Hugh Smalling
The National Trust for Historic Preservation organized a photo contest called This Place Matters to highlight the importance of preserving historically relevant landmarks. A photo submitted by Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy was chosen as one of 12 finalists for this contest out of the almost 2,000 submitted.

The top three photos that receive the most votes WIN, and YOU can VOTE NOW - once a day, every day, till October 9th! View the finalists here.

The photograph of Hugh Smalling's grave was taken by Maryann Bates. In the photo, Hugh Smalling is represented by local actor Anthony Ennis. Hugh Smalling's ship was sunk off the coast of Salerno, Italy in 1943. His is one of the stories highlighted on tours and educational programs in Riverside Cemetery, where history lives!

Conservancy trees logo
The Conservancy's main objective is to develop programs that educate the public, beautify the cemetery grounds, preserve the cemetery's historic relevance to modern culture, and ensure the continuation of extensive cemetery records.

In addition, the Foundation builds endowments to secure the long-term stability of the cemetery. We received a 501 (C) 3 non-profit designation from the IRS in December of 2005. All donations are tax deductible.

You can become a member of the Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy by purchasing an annual membership at any of the following levels: Student $10, Individual $25, Family $40, Patron $100, Corporate $100.
