Tencent, in a continued global expansion, has acquired 49% of Level Up! Level Up! is owned by Naspers, and Naspers is already a large investor in Tencent. Which sounds a little complicated. Level Up! is a leading online games operator in the Philippines, and also operates in Brazil. With this investment Tencent can expand further into Southeast Asia and get a foot in the door in Latin America.

Nexon is a company that was founded in Korea but currently has its headquarters located in Japan. They have a very large gamer following in China plus some traction in the United States. It is good news for Chinese online game publishers that Nexon will launch its very popular KartRider game on Facebook in March because this will help set the stage for other advanced casual to transfer from an online gaming experience to an SNS gaming experience. There are many advanced casual game categories, such as racing, sports, dancing, singing and more. Racing seems a good fit for SNS gaming and it seems likely that other online game publishers will watch to see if it is successful there.

Perfect World, one of the top tier Chinese online game operators, has launched Chi Bi in Indonesia via Buana Online. Niko has analyzed that Indonesia has great potential as a games market. Until now spending per gamer has been quite low in the country across all games, but Indonesia does have paying gamers and there will be more gamers who choose to spend more money in coming months and years. Perfect World is establishing themselves there with one of their hit games from China. Indonesia has been a hotbed for Facebook games, though again spending is more in line with other SE Asian countries rather than that of the United States.
