MOL, based in Malaysia, is a prominent payment solutions provider in Southeast Asia, and it also is the owner of Friendster. The company has recently announced an agreement with EA to distribute prepaid game cards for EA in five Southeast Asian nations plus India: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. As Niko Partners has noted over the past two years, the online payments solution for Southeast Asia is complicated because the countries' gamers enjoy playing cross-border against people in neighboring countries, but the banking laws and distribution of prepaid cards of multiple countries is complex. MOL has enjoyed a strong reputation in the region and has a few strong regional competitors as well as several more who focus only on one country market at a time.

Engadget reported that Apple had stopped selling the iPhone 4S in Beijing after an angry mob caused a near riot at the Beijing Apple store on the day that the phone was scheduled to go on sale, but the store did not open at the hour that was expected. The stoppage was caused to protect Apple store employees, according to the post on Engadget, and presumably also to enable Apple to come up with a safe selling strategy. The sale of electronics hardware in China starts in many of the eastern coastal cities and major cities such as Beijing, and then a percentage of the units purchased there are transported to smaller cities in less populated regions and resold in other stores at a higher price. The Engadget post speculated that many of the customers in the melee at the Apple store were actually there to buy quantities of products in order to sell them in other stores later. These people probably panicked when they were unable to secure the product they needed.
