New Niko Research: Chinese Game Development Studios Report & Directory

24-page report, including a developer's salary table and a directory of 29 Chinese outsourced game development studios, now available in English and Chinese. Published in association with the CGOC.

In July 2011 Niko Partners responded to a request by the China Games Outsourcing Conference (CGOC), part of ChinaJoy, to publish a study on the current state of the outsourced games development business in China. The results of this study are available in a report entitled Chinese Game Development Studios Report & Directory. The report is published in English and in simplified Chinese.

For this report Niko wrote the survey guide and report concept, the CGOC executed the survey to its members and companies well known in China, and then Niko used the data from the surveys plus other information we collected to conduct analysis and write the report. Niko Partners presented the findings in Shanghai during ChinaJoy 2011 .

In addition to a salary table, some key points of analysis from the report are:

  • The big studios in China are getting most of the work, and their annual revenue seems to be rising each year while squeezing out many of the smaller competitors
  • Chinese outsourced game development studios are confronting declining business opportunities from overseas, but finding more opportunities from domestic publishers and developers
  • Inflation, salary hikes and RMB appreciation have all hurt the outsourced game development businessin China
  • The report discusses fees and lines of services (such as art, programming, and quality assurance) typically found in such studios in China in 2011
