It seems the main change for online games in the MOC Internet rules brought by the revision to its Interim Internet Regulatory Methods is that Internet companies must have a minimum registered capital of RMB 10 million in order to operate online games in the country. Other changes impacting online games companies are the additional punishments that are threatened should companies break or avoid the enhanced rules.

Chinese social networking services have narrower focuses compared to the all-encompassing Facebook in the US and other regions. In China there are sites for college students, white-collar workers, and other categories. Whereas LinkedIn has been an important business SNS, launched in the US and now with more than 100,000,000 members worldwide, China's Oak Pacific just launched a new business SNS in China called Jingwei.com. LinkedIn was recently temporarily shut down in China after revolts in the Middle East made officials wary of messaging via that site.

People in Singapore may not need to frequent Internet cafés thanks to more than 70% home broadband penetration, but the government is now touting the merits of learning online games by opening a new library within which there is a section solely dedicated to promoting the learning value of games. There are interactive game stations, books on gaming, and other activities that will enable Singaporeans to test out gaming and learn more about it. The library was sponsored by the Singapore Cybersports and Online Gaming Association and DigiPen.
