Happy Holidays from Niko Partners!

Happy Holidays from Niko Partners! We will take a two-week hiatus from our weekly newsletter and resume in January. This year flew by... Wishing you all success in China's (and Asia's) game market in 2011. We'd be happy to take your suggestions to improve our newsletter for 2011. Happy New Year!

An important report was released in Washington this week, written by the US International Trade Commission. There are many references to digital media especially video games (including all platforms: PC, console, handheld) and consoles themselves. The report is 196 pages long and worth a read. It includes data citations from Niko Partners syndicated research studies as well as many other references. The analysis on that data was done entirely by the ITC.

There are so many regulations in the Chinese game market that it is difficult to keep track of all of them. The enforcement of some in recent years has been lax, such as Real Names Registration, though efforts have increased to make sure that all policies and rules are abided. The MOC has said that in January 2011 it will begin to review online games companies for compliance with their regulations that were promulgated in August 2010.
