Kaixin001 announced that it achieved profitability as of the 2nd quarter of 2010 and was actively recruiting new hires. The company is one of the most popular SNS game sites in China along with Tencent's powerhouse Qzone and Oak Pacific's open-platform competitor RenRen.com. Achieving profitability is important, as is abiding by regulations set by the Ministry of Culture and GAPP. In August new rules went into effect enhancing online games regulations and SNS companies that offer online games must follow them for content and company structure.

Perfect World plans to start open beta testing of Forsaken World on October 21st and of Dragon Excalibur on October 28th. There had been a brief period in 2010 when few games went into beta or were submitted for content approval while the industry waited to hear about possible changes to the regulations over online games in August. Since August several game betas have been launched, and now Perfect World will start two open betas in October. Perfect World is charging ahead with global expansion plans as well. As of August the company had extended its reach to Thailand (Battle of the Immortals), Malaysia (Battle of the Immortals), Singapore (Battle of the Immortals), Russia (Chi Bi), and Taiwan (Forsaken World). The company established a subsidiary in Europe and acquired C&C Media to expand operations in Japan. Their US operations have been underway for a couple of years.

The CEO of Facebook's recognition that China is "extremely complex" is stating the obvious, but at least Facebook does not plan to go at things haphazardly. Throughout the rest of Asia Facebook is the dominant social network, picking up huge numbers of users every month. Indonesia is especially huge for the company. Facebook will have a strong competitor in Tencent, less so the smaller companies Kaixin001 and RenRen.com. Note to Facebook: Call Niko, we can help you ;-)
