Student Organizations

St. Gerard's Society

Powers Catholic prides itself on the involvement of its students. The St. Gerard's Society is one of a myriad of student groups at Powers Catholic. "It's a student-run organization that tries to help protect the rights of unborn children," said Katie Fox, 12, the student leader of the St. Gerard's Society. It was started two years ago by Cara Tucker, Class of 2008, and Mary Petrides, Class of 2007. While this organization had a rocky start, it has been steadily growing in numbers. One activity the St. Gerard Society has been involved with this year was the Forty Days for Life, in partnership with St. Robert Bellarmine Parish. From September 21st to November 3rd, members participated through prayer, fasting and vigil. Another event for the group is Pro-Life week in April, which is the biggest event for the group. "We are just trying to be more visible this year," said Dana Bolle, the teacher advisor for the group. "It's been good.

Chargers for Change

We ask the young leaders of Powers Catholic High School to join us in a global call to action and a global call to create change. We urge all of our students to work alongside the Chargers for Change as we address fundamental, universal issues. These core issues are at the heart of much of the suffering in our area. Chargers for Change strives to motivate students, spread awareness, fight injustice, and make a difference in the world.

Chargers for Change was responsible for raising over $3,500 last year, and those funds were used to contribute to end world hunger, feed an orphan in India for a month, give books to U.S. children in need, protect Africans from river blindness, supply clean water to a school in Tanzania, heat a class room in Afghanistan,  and help transport medical supplies to rural areas.

Between the Lines Book Club

Between the Lines is a student book club that meets every other month to discuss and analyze modern best-selling literature. Some past book club choices include: Nineteen Minutes, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Three Cups of Tea, The Road, The Shack, and The Glass Castle. Future choices include The Book Thief, Lovely Bones, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. The goal of the book club is to get students interested in reading outside of the classroom, to share thoughts and ideas related to modern literature, and to look at literature from different perspectives.

Fast day at Powers      Fast Day

Every year students and faculty at Powers Catholic willingly participate in one day of fast in order to raise money for Heifer International. Heifer International is an organization that gives livestock to families in need all over the world. One dairy cow can produce up to four gallons of milk per day.  The National Honor Society worked with the organization to raise money to buy the livestock. Powers Catholic students, as part of their religion classes, signed pledges to participate in the fast and followed through by buying an apple and crackers for three dollars. To distract the students from their rumbling stomachs, several students including Jon Parker, Stephen Groesser and Emily Titus provided live music during lunch.

-Be willing to donate to any patient in need of a bone marrow transplant.
-If you are a life saving match your stem cells can be collected through an outpatient blood donation.
