Suicide Prevention Efforts Reach Washington DC |
On March 8th & 9th, two Indiana AFSP representatives participated in a Legislative Institute to provide training on clearly articulating AFSP/SPAN-USA's public policy agenda regarding suicide prevention needs with Congressional and Senate leaders. More than 60 participants from 30 states visited the offices of their Congressmen and Senators on March 9th, sharing their personal experiences of suicide loss and their commitment to promote change both in our communities and in public policy. The training provided an active example of change that can take place when we advocate, and how to encourage our communities to join our voices together to be heard. Stay Tuned for the opportunity to take part in our 1st Annual Indiana Suicide Prevention Day at the Capitol in downtown Indianapolis. www.spanusa.org

Lifekeeper Memory Quilt Program |
Lifekeeper Memory Quilt Program
Since 1997, Lifekeeper Memory Quilts have served as a visual image of the vast number of suicides that occur in the United States and in Indiana. The quilts represent that we, as survivors, feel our loved ones need to be remembered, not for how they died, but for who they were and how they lived. The quilts help educate our nation and our state to reduce the incidence of suicide.
If you have lost a loved one to suicide, or you know of someone who has, and would like to include him/her on the 2010 Indiana LifeKeeper Memory Quilt,
please contact Lisa Davis (lisadavis4afsp@hotmail.com) so that we may send you a 2010 Quilt Packet - in this packet you will receive a pre-cut square of material (cut for uniformity) and directions on how to complete your square. Our deadline for receiving completed squares is July 31, 2010. | |

We are grateful for all the survivors, volunteers, friends and collaborative partners we have met since our Chapter began a little over 2 years ago. Please know that it will take us ALL to silence the stigma, educate our families, friends and communities, and bring these issues "out of the darkness". If you are interested in volunteering for any event or specific committee, or you are in an area that needs to start awareness efforts and you would like to be the person to help lead those efforts, please contact me and let me know your area of interest. I hope that you will join us for the events listed in this newsletter, and please be sure to introduce yourself to any of our committee members and board members. We look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Lisa Brattain - Indiana Chapter Chair
