A New Year Brings New Retirements and New Beginnings
Jewish Family & Children's Service of Boston will say goodbye to Sy Friedland at the end of September after 18 years of dedicated service. During his tenure the agency's annual budget grew from $6.5 to $28 million, staff increased from 100 to 700, and the number of programs more than doubled. Under his leadership, the agency grew in size, stature, and reach, with innovative and award-winning programs that are modeled around the globe. Friedland's success is the result of his commitment to the work of the agency as well as his intelligence, creativity, and engaging personality. JF&CS has established the Sy Friedland Fund to honor Sy's legacy of dynamic leadership, innovative thinking, and strong commitment to the mission, values, and traditions of JF&CS. This fund will support the agency's cutting-edge programming and strategic initiatives.

Norm Keane will retire from the Jewish Family Service field after 46 years of service. Keane spent 12 of those years as the CEO of Jewish Family Service of Detroit. Together Norm and his wife, Mary, who is also retiring as Executive Director of Hebrew Free Loan created strong bonds with many friends and colleagues. They have served their agencies and community with exceptional professionalism, deep compassion and exemplary dedication. This fall the Keanes will retire, but not from helping the people that they have spent their lives supporting - the most vulnerable among us. In their honor, the Keane Community Crisis Fund has been established to provide emergency financial assistance to individuals and families who are jointly served by HFL and JFS. This fund will leverage the best resources of both agencies for those in dire need.

Provide MORE Program Dollars for Your Agency
As unemployment in America has climbed to record heights, what agencies pay for state unemployment tax has risen dramatically. Are you aware that there are two ways you can satisfy your state's unemployment obligation? You can either stay with a state managed system or reimburse on your own.
A movement away from the state system can many times save you 1% to 5% on your total payroll. Heidi Posada at 501(c) Agencies Trust will be hosting a webinar that will review the advantages and disadvantages of each option and help you determine if this may be a good option for your agency.
