Expanding Jewish Families Through Adoption
Jewish Family Services in Nashville was featured in a beautiful story about Jewish families who are expanding through overseas and interfaith adoption. Through the rituals of mikveh and naming ceremonies, these families are bringing new children into the Jewish community. The article written for the Tennessean was also picked up by USA Today. Mazel Tov to JFS Nashville for work worth celebrating!
End of Year Greetings
As we enter the final few weeks of the calendar year, it is traditional to exchange greetings and well wishes with those we meet. Whether it be Seasons Greetings, Happy Holidays, or something more specific like Merry Christmas or Happy Chanukah, there are plenty of opportunities to share some warm words with family, friends, and strangers alike.
One of the great things about being Jewish (other than bagels, brisket, and matzo balls), is that we constantly have opportunities to exchange greetings. Throughout the year we can say Chag Sameach on one occasion or another and each week we say Shabbat Shalom and Shavuah Tov. These are phrases which work to enhance and strengthen our relationships and that bring each of us into the greater community. The sincerity of these greetings is at the core of the work that our member agencies do every day -- to be caring, inclusive and empowering.
This is our final e-newsletter for 2010. And so, from all of us at AJFCA, please accept our warmest greetings, for a wonderful holiday, a chag sameach, a good Shabbos, and certainly, a happy and healthy New Year to all of you and your families.
