Goodbye to Chrystal...

It was a mixture of joy and sadness as Chrystal Allen performed her last song as a member of the Montego Bay Hands-In-Praise team. Starting at the age of 4, Chrystal was one of the first students of
the Montego Bay campus of CCCD. Now, at the age of 20, she is preparing to leave Jamaica this fall to attend college in Peoria, IL. Over the years, Chrystal has distinguished herself as a leader and a role model for the other students. In addition to being a stellar student and the Head Girl for the campus, Chrystal has also been involved in a number of clubs and activities including the dance team, 4-H Club, Inter-School Christian Fellowship president, Red Cross, school athletics, and of course student leader of the Hands-In-Praise team. At the age of 12, Chrystal was one of the original members of the MoBay HIP team. Since then she has been on tours throughout the US and the Caribbean and has ministered to thousands of people through song and the sharing of her testimony. Chrystal will be greatly missed on campus, but we know that God has amazing things planned for her life and we trust that she will continue to glorify Him in all that she does in the future.

JDV, New Hope orphanage and the Infirmary

From Ben Beukema, Missionary at JDV:

"Other than all the work that is done at CCCD and here at JDV there are some other things that we do that I just love being a part of. For those who have been on a mission trip here you know that we often take time out of our work schedule to visit the infirmary and a few different orphanages in the area. I have been blessed to get to know the manager of one of those orphanages and I love bring teams there to show God's love to the kids there.

This past spring I brought a team to that orphanage on Good Friday. I asked the manager ahead of time if it would be all right if we brought lunch for the kids along with us. She said that would be wonderful! I had our cook here put together a lunch of sandwiches, fruit, chips, and a Good Friday favorite, bun and cheese. Bun and cheese is basically to pieces of cinnamon raison bread and a slice of cheddar cheese in the middle. We brought the lunch over to the orphanage and took some time to play and hang out with the kids. When it came time for lunch I opened the cooler and the orphanage manager saw the bun and cheese and started to tear up. She then told me that in the 23 years that she has had this orphanage open this was the first year that she hasn't been able to afford to buy bun and cheese for here employees, and we happened to bring it! What is amazing to me is that we decided to visit this orphanage on a different day than normal and our cook just figured that since it was Good Friday we should bring bun and cheese. God has a funny way of doing small things that can be a real blessing. Since then I have had even more stories and it's exciting to see God moving here in Jamaica and at CCCD. God is so good!"

At the Zoo for Kingston teens

Deaf Teen Quest students took a trip to the Zoo in Kingston. It was a fun filled afternoon as we look the animals after which we played several games and spent much time in prayer and testimony.

These same students joined with other Deaf Teen Quest (DTQ) members from Jamaica and the US to learn about peer mentoring, discipleship, how to be a good witness and how to share your testimony (your story) and the good news (God's story).  This is in cooperation with Youth for Christ Jamaica and Youth for Christ US.  It is wonderful to see different ministries from different countries coming together in the name of Christ.
