Greetings!

Impossible to believe! By a vote of 27 to 29, the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee today voted down the bipartisan Petri/Johnson/Lipinski amendment that would have restored the eligibility of rail trails and dedicated funding for the Transportation Enhancements and Safe Routes to School programs.

Here is how our NY representatives on the committee voted:

Rep. Timothy Bishop (D) and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D) voted for the amendment. Rep. Richard Hanna (R) voted against the amendment.

THANK YOU everyone for contacting your representatives in these last few days. Your support sent a powerful message that these programs are important.

As we regroup it is even more critical to continue to stay in touch with your Representative and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and let them know how much Transportation Enhancements and Safe Routes to School programs have:

  • contributed to the renaissance of our communities
  • fostered a new kind of tourism
  • added more dollars to local economies and helped create new opportunities for small businesses
  • enhanced the safety of our children and older adults
  • improved our health and quality of life

Thank you again for your support. We will keep you updated.
