Grants Available through OPRHP, Canal Corps, DOS  

 

Applications due October 31

 

As you may know, earlier this summer Governor Cuomo announced that up to $1 billion in economic development funding would be made available through a Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) process. Amongst the nine state agencies and authorities that have pooled resources to be made available through the CFA are the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the Canal Corporation and the Department of State.

  

Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP)

OPRHP is dedicating up to $13 million to parks, historic preservation and heritage area projects through the CFA. The maximum award is $400,000.
  • Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) Municipal Park Program: A matching grant program for the acquisition or development of local parks, trails and other recreational facilities. 
  • EPF Historic Preservation Program: A matching grant program to acquire, improve, protect, preserve, rehabilitate or restore properties listed on the National or State Registers of Historic Places.
  • Heritage Areas Program: A matching grant program for projects to preserve, rehabilitate or restore lands, waters or structures, identified in a management plan approved by the Commissioner. Projects must fall within a New York State Designated Heritage Area.

Canal Corporation

The Canal Corporation is making available $1 million in new funding for community and waterfront revitalization projects through the CFA. 

  • Canalway Grants Program: Up to $1 million is available through matching grants of between $50,000 and $150,000 for development and tourism promotion, construction or enhancement of the Canalway Trail, and canal community infrastructure projects.

Department of State (DOS)

DOS is dedicating resources to advance the regions' community and waterfront revitalization priorities through the CFA.

  • Environmental Protection Fund Local Waterfront Revitalization Program: $10.875 million to villages, towns, cities and counties for a variety of waterfront planning, design and construction projects that advance economic, community, environmental and recreational improvements.

About the Regional Economic Development Councils
To support the Governor's plans to improve New York's business climate and stimulate economic growth, 10 Regional Economic Development Councils were recently created.
