 Year's Eve Ball
Back in September of 2007 Tibbits celebrated its 125th anniversary with a spectacular ball. We had a great time and many have asked when we're going to do it again.

Well with a change of timing and a change of venue, we're doing it again. Join us for the first ever New Year's Eve Ball at the Tibbits Opera House.

The event will still be a formal, black tie optional event. We're bringing back  the Dueling Pianos and again having Martell's cater the affair. This time instead of the tent, we'll be coming home to the opera house with dancing on stage, lavish hors d'oeuvres served throughout the theatre, a cash bar in the lobby and casino gaming in the gallery.  Tickets are $50 for the evening and available at Tibbits offices or by clicking Buy Now.

Wrap Up
Tibbits celebrated 30 years of auction fun on November 7 and raised over $40,000 for the operations of the theatre.

The event also included special recognition to David Norton for his support and auction services for all of the thirty years. Randall Hazelbaker, President of the Tibbits Board presented Norton with a plaque and a lapel pin that read "Forever Thank you."

With a circus fanfare and some theatrical flare, the live auction began. Seventy-one items were auctioned from the stage and nearly 500 items were up for bid at the silent auction downstairs in the gallery.

"We owe a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who helped put this event together as well as to the businesses and individuals who were so generous with their donations," said Marisue Taylor, co-chair for the event with Marilyn Ostrander. She added "We also had a great turnout with a lot of new faces this year; we thank everyone for coming and bidding."

According to Christine Delaney, Executive Director the gross revenue was just about $47,500 including the raffle and 50-50 drawings as well as straight cash donations. She said, "It's down a little from the last few years, but we expected things to be tighter this year. I'm actually very pleased with how well it turned out."

The ghosts of Christmas past, present, and...Tibbits?
Ghost Hunters Reveal Findings
In the October newsletter we asked is the theatre haunted? It's one of the most often asked questions during tours, especially from children.

Members of GLASS (Great Lakes Area Supernatural Society) and SMP (Southern Michigan Paranormals) spent an evening in the theatre to see if they could answer the question.paranormal haunting
After reviewing video and audio tapes taken during their investigation, they met to reveal their findings.

While their answers are inconclusive they found enough to want to investigate further. While they captured nothing on video with their DVR (digital video recorder) and IR (infra-red) cameras, they picked up some intersting EVPs (electronic voice phenomenon) which correlated with readings from K-2 and EMF (electro-magnetic frequency) meters. They were able to debunk one of the areas of "high levels of activity" by determining the activity is the result of actual electric usage rather than anything paranormal.

The group is planning a Paranormal Conference at the theatre in September of 2010 and hopes to schedule some additional investigative tours. They may even open the tours up to the community. Stay tuned.

Welcome to new staff member
Next time you're at the theatre, or purchasing your tickets over the phone, say hello to the new box office manager, Leslie Suelzer who joined the staff last month. She's a student at Trine University studying finance and looking forward to the unique experiences offered at Tibbits. Leslie is ready to assist with your ticket needs and eager to learn the world of theatre.

We're also enjoying the assistance of Danielle Putnam who's helping out in the interim while Tibbits searches for a new Development / Special Events Coordinator. If you attended the auction you may have met Danielle as she assisted with your auction purchases.
Thanksgiving Hours
Tibbits administrative offices will be closed Nov. 25, 26, 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Help the Memories Continue
Not everyone realizes ticket sales only cover the cost of shows, and sometimes not even that. Maintaining the building, paying for utilities, staffing to coordinate all of the activities and providing the building for community groups are supported through fundraising efforts-most importantly, through membership. It truly is the foundation that makes everything possible.
