The tie in to the circus has a natural connection to the history of the theatre. In its early days of touring shows, vaudeville and theatrical novelties, circus side-show acts often appeared on the schedule and included our favorites: camel rides, and beer drinking elephants.
Let us Entertain You

Saline Fiddlers soloA variety of musical entertainment is in store as Tibbits announces its 2009-10 Entertainment Series offering some new faces as well as some familiar favorites.

In November Southwest Michigan's own Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra leads off the series. Then in December America's premier youth fiddling show, the Saline Fiddlers takes to the stage with all of their exuberance. In January audiences will experience an entertaining, interactive culinary and musical show! with Andy LoRusso, also known as "The Singing Chef." Sit in your theatre seats and enjoy tasting the four course all Italian menu perhaps with a splash of wine!

Just in time for Valentine's Day, singer, songwriter and outstanding acoustic guitarist Jay Buchanan comes to Tibbits from California where he has twice been awarded "The Best of the West" for his musical talents.

"Not for Women Only" a lively musical review in March features sassy, funny, entertaining songs by, for, and about women and their lives in the variety of musical genres, including Broadway, pop, and country.

The season wraps up in April with Kuungana Drum and Dance Company, an exciting colorful spectacle of rhythm and inspiration evoking the traditions of  West Africa through drums, dance and costumes. Kuungana continues the activities of Celebrating Cultural Connections which last year presented the Ballet Folklorico.

Tickets for Tibbits Entertainment Series are $100 for all six shows or $95 for Tibbits members. Upgrades are available for the Singing Chef including a wine pairing or premium seating on stage. For series tickets call Tibbits at 517-278-6029. For more information:

KSO Barry
Kalamazoo
Symphony
Orchestra
In all my time with Tibbits, the single most thrilling experience was the appearance in 2007 of the KSO to a sold out house, hearing the symphony join the voices of the Coldwater High School choirs and the music resonate through the perfect acoustics of the historic theatre. Even the memory brings tears to my eyes.

Through the hard work of many, the generous sponsorship of the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities and a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council, KSO is returning. In addition to the choir performing a selection from Vivaldi's "Gloria," members of the CHS band will join the symphony for "Stars and Stripes." The instrument petting zoo will be in the art gallery prior to the 7:30 pm show. Join us November 3 - Don't miss it!

In the "Spirit" of the season...
Ghost Hunters & Paranormal

Is the theatre haunted? One of the most often asked questions during tours, especially from children.
The answer...remains to be heard. Members of GLASS (Great Lakes Area Supernatural Society) and SMP (Southern Michigan Paranormals) spent an evening in the theatre to see if they could answer the question.paranormal haunting
They're reviewing video and audio tapes taken during their investigation and will be revealing the results soon.

By coincidence the Arts Alive exhibit continues the theme with "Paranormal." Works of area artists represent not only different mediums but a variety of interpretations of the theme.  The art gallery is open for all events and by appointment. The exhibit runs through the KSO performance on Nov. 3.

Help the Memories Continue
Not everyone realizes ticket sales only cover the cost of shows, and sometimes not even that. Maintaining the building, paying for utilities, staffing to coordinate all of the activities and providing the building for community groups are supported through fundraising efforts-most importantly, through membership. It truly is the foundation that makes everything possible.
