Flashback 1968!

G MillerBilled as an American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, "Hair" explodes on the Tibbits stage Thursday, July 23 as the third show of the professional summer stock season. Audiences will embrace the rock score which includes "Aquarius," "Good Morning Starshine," '"I Believe in Love," "Hair," "I Got Life," "What a Piece of Work Is Man" and "Hippie Life."

With book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot, "Hair" broke new ground in musical theatre by defining the genre of the "rock musical." A product of the hippie counter-culture and sexual revolution of the 1960s, several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. Its profanity, its depiction of the use of illegal drugs, its treatment of sexuality, its irreverence for the flag, its brief nudity, and its racially-integrated cast, caused much comment and controversy in 1968.

HairWhile the impact has changed with the changes in society, the show still has a strong effect on everyone, but now acts as a bridge between generations and viewpoints. Whether audiences are of the generation who lived through it or of the generation who considers it retro the energy and impact are timeless.

The Broadway revival of "Hair" opened on March 31, 2009, and earned rave reviews winning Tony and Drama Desk Awards for best revival of a musical. For probably the first time in Tibbits Summer Theatre's 46-year history, we're presenting a show that is currently running on Broadway.  For more information: Hair. To purchase tickets: Buy tickets
Jeff Daniels Returns

Michigan-based actor, Jeff Daniels, returns to Tibbits at 7 pm Sunday, August 9 for "An Evening with Jeff Daniels," an easy-going, home-spun performance featuring his own songwriting, his guitar and a few memorable stories.

Jeff Daniels unpluggedDaniels returns to Michigan during a break in the run of the Tony-award-winning Broadway play "God of Carnage" for which he was nominated for a Tony. Daniels is best known for his roles in dozens of films as varied as "Terms of Endearment," "Dumb and Dumber," "Escanaba in the Moonlight," "Gettysburg," "Because of Winn Dixie," Gods and Generals" and one of his new releases "Answer Man."

Daniels' interest in theatre prompted his establishing the Purple Rose Theatre Company in 1991 in his hometown of Chelsea.  It was this theatre company which prompted him to take up his guitar and share some of his songs.  His first CD, "Live and Unplugged at the Purple Rose," was created as a benefit for the theatre.

Daniels told the audience in a previous appearance at Tibbits he uses his songwriting as a form of self therapy while working on his films. The songs are stories and glimpses into his life and his loves whether it's about his "Grandfather's Hat," his wife "Kathy" or his "Lifelong Tiger Fan Blues."   With three CDs to his credit, his unique style of music and storytelling, from comic lyrics to poignant poetry and a mix of folk and blues, comes together on stage for a must-see performance.
