| Greetings! | |
Our recent Open House at our center in Mountain View was a celebratory event. We were welcomed by Mayor Jac Siegel, the Chamber of Commerce held a special ribbon cutting ceremony, and Assemblymember Paul Fong presented us with a proclamation honoring Cancer Support Community for its first year of service in the Silicon Valley. But our real celebration was for the opportunity to create community and share the journey of people dealing with cancer. Since we opened our doors last year, close to 400 cancer patients and their families have participated in the programs and services at Cancer Support Community.

1st Anniversary Open House | |

Over 50 business and community members joined us on Tuesday, July 26, to celebrate the 1st anniversary of our Silicon Valley office. Rocky Tilney, Immediate Past Chair of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce Mountain View welcomed guests and introduced City of Mountain View Mayor Jac Siegel. Mayor Siegel discussed the importance of having Cancer Support Community available to the Mountain View Community and joined us in celebrating Cancer Support Community Silicon Valley, serving over 350 cancer patients and their families since opening our doors in May 2010. A ribbon cutting ceremony and raffle prizes completed the evening of celebration. A special thanks to Cyrus Reporter and Marsha Sokoloff of Millenium, for providing all of the food for the festivities.

| Strike Out Cancer | |
The seventh annual Strike Out Cancer Day was held at AT & T Park on Sunday, July 24. The event celebrated survivorship, provided information about available services, and raised funds to underwrite support for cancer patients and their families at Cancer Support Community.
This year, nine survivors from Cancer Support Community shared their stories in a pre-game field ceremony. Myrna & Dennis Cheney, cancer survivor and caregiver, and our Spirit of Hope Gala Honorees, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Survivors joined the Giants players on the field to the cheers of the crowd. Surely inspired by us, the Giants went on the defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1.
Strike Out Cancer Day was sponsored and produced by our friends at Genentech. Genentech also provides Cancer Support Community with a grant representing $200 for every home strikeout by the Giants - a total of $100,000 for the year. Genentech and Cancer Support Community volunteers sold over $17,000 in raffle tickets during the game.
In all, proceeds from Strike Out Cancer Day 2011 underwrote the support for over 195 participants at Cancer Support Community!
