| Greetings! | |
Over 2,000 cancer patients and their families will make almost 20,000 visits to Cancer Support Community in the East Bay and Silicon Valley this year. They will receive all of the services and support they need - all free of charge, thanks to our donors and sponsors.
To make that possible, we work hard to hold our own fundraising events throughout the year, including gala dinners, a golf tournament, and a butterfly release. But we are especially blessed when other community groups hold their fundraising events to benefit Cancer Support Community and people dealing with cancer. This newsletter highlights some of those wonderful events. We offer many thanks to them, and encourage you to join them.
We want to keep you informed about our events and other activities, but we also want to respect your privacy. Please let us know if you want to keep receiving this e-newsletter by clicking the subscribe button below. You may opt out of future e-newsletters by clicking the unsubscribe link at the top of this email. If you want to receive occasional event invitations, our bimonthly program calendar, or other information via U.S. mail, please send an email to Amy Alanes. Of course, you are most welcome to visit us any time in person at our center or on our website at www.cancersupportcommunity.net.

Wishing you wellness,

James Bouquin
Executive Director

| Strike Out Cancer | |
The seventh annual Strike Out Cancer Day was held at AT & T Park on Sunday, July 24. The event celebrated survivorship, provided information about available services, and raised funds to underwrite support for cancer patients and their families at Cancer Support Community.
This year, nine survivors from Cancer Support Community shared their stories in a pre-game field ceremony. Myrna & Dennis Cheney, cancer survivor and caregiver, and our Spirit of Hope Gala Honorees, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Survivors joined the Giants players on the field to the cheers of the crowd. Surely inspired by us, the Giants went on the defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1.
Strike Out Cancer Day was sponsored and produced by our friends at Genentech. Genentech also provides Cancer Support Community with a grant representing $200 for every home strikeout by the Giants - a total of $100,000 for the year. Genentech and Cancer Support Community volunteers sold over $17,000 in raffle tickets during the game.
In all, proceeds from Strike Out Cancer Day 2011 underwrote the support for over 195 participants at Cancer Support Community!

| Document Shredding Fundraiser Results Are In | |
We are thankful to Diablo Valley Oncology & Hematology and Shred Works for hosting a shredding fundraiser on Saturday, June 4. The event raised $2,500 this year to support our mission; this is $500 more than last year's event and we held it in the pouring rain! Thank you Sandy, Lori, Michelle & Dr. Johl for making this possible and thanks to everyone who came out and brought their shredding.
