All the Good News about Port Sanilac!
Greetings!

Here's to hoping everyone had a wonderful holiday break and is ringing in the New Year with renewed energy!

Reaching Out Proves Successful!

Port Sanilac's Senior Dining Center welcomed newcomers and old friends to a Holiday Lunch Event sponsored by the Port Sanilac DDA on Dec.19th.

The December outreach event was held in an effort to boost the number of participants taking advantage of our Senior Dining services. It provided a wonderful opportunity to explore the program while enjoying the food and fellowship offered. The tables are fuller these days with less cancellations due to low attendance.

The event was such a success that a second event is planned for January 18th at 11:30am. If you have family members, friends, or neighbors over the age of 60, who would like to join us for this lunch, please
follow this link for more information and a flyer to pass on.

The Bark Shanty Community Center serves as Port Sanilac's Senior Dining Center, a program of the Human Develpment Commission of Sanilac County. Meals are served Monday-Wednesday at 11:30am with a card game afterwards. For more information on this, and other, nutritional programs offered by the HDC, click here.

Planning for summer in the snow!

The 'off-season' is 'planning season' here in the Village of Port Sanilac. In early November, an Events Planning meeting was held by the Village at the Bark Shanty Community Center. Ron Cole, Village Coordinator, brought together volunteers, residents, and event hosts to help improve the planning and implementation of our 2012 season. Dates were nailed down, committees were formed, and a few new endeavors were set in motion.

The hard work is far from over, but the energy harnessed that day, has proven to have kept it's momentum. Help is always needed. Those who wish to volunteer at any of our events, help coordinate, or purely share their talent, are encouraged to fill out our 'Time and Talent' survey and send it to us!

Whether your training for that 5K run, or only put your running shoes on for the 100 mile Antique Trail Sale, check out our 2012 Events Schedule. There is sure to be something for everyone. Mark your calendars and leave a few spots open for ongoing additions! We look forward to seeing you around town again this year!

Snowy Owl visits Port Sanilac!

I recently received an email from Jon and Barb Ha
man with wonderful news for those birding enthusiasts out there.

Walking their dog, on a beautiful December day, they walked upon a pleasant surprise. Perched out on the breakwall and feasting on a gull, was a Snowy Owl.

Once spotted, the owl retreated to the other side of the breakwall.  The lucky onlookers were sure to mention that 'of course, we would not have approached and scared him/her off, if we had realized before we approached that it was owl.'

Some of the most beautiful and sacred moments enveloped in nature catch us by surprise, and wouldn't you know it, without our cameras! John and Barb sent a link about the return of the Snowy Owl to Michigan. Let's all hope we will be seeing more of them this winter! To read more about the Snowy Owl invasion in Michigan visit the link!
Don't Delay...Book your Stay!

Cottage and House rentals are booking up quickly, even with summertime months away! There are a few great sites that highlight all the essential information about booking your stay. From grand houses on the shore, to cottages steps away from the Marina, there is something for everyone!

Check out the Home Away site, a great search tool for houses, cabins, and cottages for rent by the night, week, or month. This link will take you directly to the Port Sanilac section.

Another great search option is the cabin and cottage listings for Port Sanilac found on Michigan.org.

Last, but not least, here is a list of those mentioned on the Port Sanilac website, put together in an easy to print pdf.
